o8 4x4 v6 trd 6spd off road rear end was making a little noise until I got new tires( by the way cooper stt pros are really quiet like they say). My old tires drowned out most of the noise but I still could hear a noise on decel, loose gear kinda noise. Well now its going! go pro tells the truth. I read most all the posts on here And thanks for all the info. Im just wondering how long I have before complete blamo? No clunks or scary noise yet just the loose pinion that I can move up and down very slightly ( I unbolted drivelive and jacked up so I could spin back tires). also If i broke down and had 14mms with could I take the drive line out, throw it in the back, put it in 4 high and get home in front wheel drive? thanks

Me and my buddy drove his truck in front wheel drive over 40 miles to get his truck to the shop when he thought he blew his rear end.
it turned out it was just his spider gears had went out.
i took his driveshaft off and threw it in the bed and we hit the interstate. i told him not to go over 60 but he didnt listen and he drove 70 the whole way there. his truck has not had any issues since he replaced the spider gears.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Had to do the same thing with my Dad's Ram Charger years ago when we lost a u joint. For emergency situations, you're fine driving with the rear disconnected. As Cro said, I wouldn't take it too far or at too high a speed for extended periods.
