Just got the call that they duplicated the cruise control shift issue once during their diagnostics and went ahead and did the TSB. Now to wait for lunchtime traffic madness to die down and hopefully get my K&N air filter delivered sometime today and installed.

And during this wait I got a text saying they want to buy the truck. o_O Yeah...for $40k they can, and I'd happily jump into a new 4Runner.

Might want to pick up ear plugs. That K & N can be very loud. Too loud at times.

It's just the air filter...not the actual air intake. My boss recommended it and I initially thought of the intake and was not ready to void my extended warranty. Thankfully I double checked with him. It just arrived woot!

The TSB done and it seems to have a smoother launch when giving it some real throttle.

On another note....the TRD already has a reusable air filter similar to K&N already in tje truck. :facepalm:Ooh well...I'll see how they compare and sell one of them dirt cheap.

Bummer. Maybe sell it to your boss. Maybe soak it in Kerosene first. That will teach him. Just tell him they accidentally sold you one for a 2015.

Drove the truck just now and it felt strange. Unusually smooth around the city. Then I remembered I had the TSB done on Wednesday and hadn't driven it since.

My truck wasn't bad - few minor issues here and here. But now... daaayyyym, son!

Had my 5k service done at Coggin Toyota in Jacksonville, FL. I asked about the TSB and they applied the fix without any hassle.

Before the fix: Jolting during acceleration, shifting to 5th or 6th gear while going uphill during acceleration. Would have to consistently give a good deal of throttle to get the car to downshift, and it would jolt to 3rd or 4th gear. Felt like it was angry during downshifting while slowing down for a red light. Generally just annoying and became part of everyday annoyance.

After the fix: everything is MUCH MUCH smoother. Gear shifts to the place where you feel it should (have no other way to describe this feeling). No jolting sudden downshifts. Cruise control works flawlessly and doesn't constantly switch gear while cruising at 80 on the hwy. Overall, things feel like I will soon forget that I ever had transmission issues and problems will melt away. This fix is fantastic!

Got my update done yesterday during my 15k service. I wasn't experiencing any of the issues other members on this form have been observing, but it's like having a totally new truck. Thumbs up for this group and helping fellow Tacoma owners!!

OK Guys.....I've have yet to get the TSB done...still debating...
    For my SR5's 4x4 V6 Auto transmission I've noticed:
    1. From a standing start and during acceleration the truck rapidly shifts through each gear up to 4 or 5th gear for speeds up to 40-50 mph (seems OK but shifts rapidly through each gear).
    2. When cruising at highway speeds (65-70mph) and the truck encounters a hill, the truck will down shift from 6th to 5th, then with greater incline it down-shifts again to 4th gear with yet higher RPMs (keeps the speed spot on...that is does not very the speed during uphill climbs 65-70 mph...not even 1mph)....however, at these higher RPMs, cabin becomes very loud at cruising speed using 4th gear...typically I turn off cruise and then vary the throttle to achieve at least 5th gear with a decrease in speed to achieve a good match for 5th at the lower RPMs. Defeats the purpose of Cruise on long trips out West!

    3. I've heard the TBS delays downshifts at cruising speeds allowing cruise to be more effective....is this correct?

    Thanks, Mike

Correct. However, with the gearing of 5th gear being a large jump, and having a 4200+ pound vehicle and a motor with fairly low torque at those RPMs, you may be stuck with most of what you are seeing. The TSB will help but not solve the issue. A mild rear gear change could help, though, we are still waiting on the aftermarket.

While it will be better, mine still does what you describe, but not as bad. Irritates the crap out of me when it downshifts into 4th going up a hill because it's so loud. I find it so objectionable that I normally don't use cruise. Sucks to spend this much money and hate to even use cruise.

My bed is about 1/2" off to the drivers side. It's a known problem, either the bed or the cab isn't lined up correctly.

TSB 0077-16 performed at 3,700 miles , odometer now at 5,100 miles . Tacoma is much more spirited and markedly overall performance has been enhanced. Only issue remaining is an odd shudder, surging almost gives the impression of an engine miss while driving normally at road speeds of 35mph and 60 mph . Dealer states technician can not duplicate. Fifth Tacoma and I remain puzzled. Through the whole ordeal dealer could not duplicate any issues. jBL system went out at day of delivery, unit replaced, tire wear at 900 miles, Toyota replaced two front tires at 3,716 miles, erratic shifting and so on. Once again can not duplicate . Toyota and dealer immediately lean on the crutch, truck , you are not familiar with shifting mannerisms of a truck, 4second generation 1 3rd generation. Just curious is any 16 Tacoma v6 Auto. Trans.owner has or is experiencing this issue . Thanks

Hi, if you have not opened a case with Toyota corporate, I would do so. This issue has been observed by a hand full of others, but my July 2016 build does not do this.
