No. This will likely happen silently as newer transmissions are manufactured. Normally, a large, successful company will never admit fault. They will likely mitigate the flaw with software the best way they can. I used to program engine management, and I know exactly how to hide a flair (secret of the trade). My guess is by 2018, the transmission will be ironed out.

Sub'd. Mine is having the same 3-4 flare when cold. It'll do it consistently with light to moderate throttle input as long as the engine temp needle hasn't moved past the first line from cold. Hoping to see the outcome of some other people complaining to Toyota before I take mine in. It needs to go in for the 5k service in about 1200 miles so I will likely address it then.

This problem will be hard to get dealer to.replicate and even if they do they'll probably say it's normal for vehicle

I think you're probably right about the above statements...I'm going to open a case about the shuddering I keep experiencing. I don't really fell like going to the dealer multiple times though. I have more important things to do with my time besides taking a new truck in for repairs. I think I'll end up trading the truck next year or the following year.

Its funny, my 2009 Lexus LS460 did exactly the same thing. on cold mornings, pulling away from the house it popped up 100-300 rpm between 2nd and 3rd. Dealer said it was normal with this transmission. I posted the issue on a Lexus forum about this, got ten responses saying that they all did it.My 16 TRD Off Road does the same thing, except in the afternoon after sitting in the sun all day, a stronger flair between 2-3 up shift. It does it every time.

So what we have here might well be a characteristic of the transmission, and not a defect. Will it cause premature failure? On mine I doubt it. Ive adapted by letting up on the gas for a moment when it is going to shift.

    It is annoying for sure.

Here is a video of my lexus I made to show my dealer. He said yeah, no big deal.

FYI: my build date is last month, and I can see they fixed a lot of the problems. Stay strong. They will do something for you. Let Toyota clearly know your dissatisfaction. Good luck.

I get the hard down shift every now and then in the mornings. I highly doubt the dealer would replicate it and I don't want to keep my truck over night for the 3rd time...

I have called Toyota corporate and got it documented. Their suggestion is to let the dealer know and to bring it in if it gets worse.

Most transmission technicians, that work on Aisin Warner Seiki transmissions, like in your Lexus, would disagree. They would argue that your valve body is likely leaking down somewhere. Just so the readers of this thread understand this clearly... a stock transmission, in any car or consumer product truck, should never flair between shifts. Shift flairing is never a desired characteristic, in a transmission's design specifications, and furthermore, it is abusive on the clutches and transmission fluid.

I am thinking mine will be replaced sometime in 2017 when they get their act together with the transmission. I don't want another mis-engineered transmission.

I think it will be much easier to replicate in the winter.

I had my TSB performed a few weeks ago, and I'm still getting transmission flares on cold startup/drive from 2nd to 3rd. Usually only does it once or twice and then no more after it warms up. Also, 1st gear into 2nd is a really hard/harsh shift.
