My fil wanted 2 lever guns for his grankids... I steered him clear of 30-30s and he found those in 45-70's so they should handle anything we run up on

 

Well down fil well done. They will do fine, I cheat during bow now we can use crossbow in Florida.

 

Yeah ive killed a deer with a cross bow about 10 years ago (well i hit 1 lung cuz it was right under my tree and several hours later my buddy found it while i was at school and he killed it with a box cutter) i just cant get motivated to bow hunt anymore. Mosquitoes, snakes, sweat meh ill wait till we get a good freeze before i get serious.

I just dont like a 30-30; less energy than a .243 with more recoil and about the worse trajectory u can get with a rifle. I know its "killed more deer than any other caliber" so says the internet, but its just way too 1 dimensional to me. Its just ok at best. If that was the only cal to deer hunt with, id start shotgun hunting. I tried to talk the fil into a 308 or atleast something on that case but browning is the only company that makes a lever action .308 i know of and he came across these before he could find two.

And i actually really like 1 of his grankids (my daughter) and its hit and miss on the other haha
