Before I get harassed for not searching, I did, and read through a variety of threads already.

That being said, any current reviews on these kits now that you have had it more than a week? I feel like right off the bat you want to think it sounds fantastic because you just dropped a shitton of money on it, but I am curious how you guys are liking the sound after the 'new car smell' is gone?

Do they sound better now that everything is broken in? Or are you getting used to it and wish you would have gone custom for higher end or more power or better sub / etc? How does the 8" 100w sub sound for the oem audio kit?

Would you do it again if you could go back to the day you clicked the add to cart button? If not, what would you do differently and why?

I am asking this because I am kind of lazy and don't want to do the research as to what works well together and what will integrate easily, so on and so forth.

If anyone has any other recommendations post them up!

    Thanks!

I've had my OEM Audio Plus system installed since early April and I still love it. Crank it up and it gets loud without distorting. Sometimes to the point you forget how loud it is till you get out. The little 8" unit does exactly what it should. It fills in the lows and still has a lot of punch. It's a double cab Tacoma and it's behind the drivers side back seat so you can certainly still feel it no problem. It's not a large 250W 12" or anything, but it fits the truck well and looks factory.

It is expensive though, that's for sure, but for me it's worth it since I have my iPod plugged in and on 99% of the time I'm driving.

Compared to the stock system in the Tacoma I would absolutely do it again. Probably not if I already had the JBL system, but I didn't so that wasn't a factor.

There is an audible hiss from the tweeters when the amp is on and no sound is playing, but that's about it. And the sub can rattle the interior plastics at certain frequencies and volume but it's negligible. Not nearly as bad as the pounding the 12" I had in my Tundra would do to the back panel. Even with it insulated. It's not enough for me to complain. But that's all the nit picks I can think of.

Thanks - Did you do any dynamat or similar treatment when you installed things? I heard adding some to the doors goes a long ways.

I didn't actually, though if I did it again I probably would. Between the sound system, cat-back exhaust, and my tires it's pretty loud in the cab anyway. I'm sure it would help cut down on some of that. More so if it's still a stock truck.

So I'm up in the air at this point between a DIY setup and going with a kit like OEMaudio or *********.

Here is a list and rough price breakdown. Anything I am missing?

    Line out Converter - $100
    4 channel speaker amp - $150
    Mono sub amp - $200
    All Speakers - $400
    Sub/box - $300
    Wiring - $100
    DSP - $200??

So I'm looking at about $1450 give or take... Not much if any savings.

The OEM JBL audio was well worth the warranty and factory correct sound system for ~$650. Wouldn't change a thing for my truck as far as audio.

I actually don't mind the stock audio. I've installed 5 or 6 systems over the years. My last two were pretty legit. And ya, I don't even mind the stock speakers. I'll probably get bored with it at some point.

You can do a system for far less then 1450 and probably be better then oemaudio. The ease of use is what they're selling.

I've been considering both options myself recently and here's why I'm leaning towards the oem audio setup.

It's tuned for the cab out of the box.

Tuning an audio system is way more important than some think. Buying high end components and not tuning them is in some respects comparable to supercharging an engine and not tuning it after. You aren't getting the full 9 and a properly tuned lesser set of components may yield better results than a poorly tuned greater set of components.

My biggest concern is will the sealed 8 be enough but I'm willing to roll the dice there, I don't need over the top bass but I do listen to music that's "bass heavy" so it needs to be there. I think it will be.

Price is decently high but honestly I would get there quick if not surpass it if I hand pick components. Been there, done that.

Just my thoughts. Figured I'd share since I've been considering the exact same thing lately.

It's probably a ok sounding system and I agree. Tuning is really important.

However, I couldn't find where they list what speakers they're using. What sub. What amp. 100w rms sub? I mean that's pretty weak. $70 8in subs are doing twice that. Obviously there's more to it, but you get the gist.

They're using pretty low quality stuff and putting it into an easy to use package. Who's to say the door speakers they provide are even any better? I think the stock ones sound just fine. With the restriction of the head unit. If it were me. Id get a better 8in sub then they provide, use a box from them for easy install. A decent amp. See how that sounds for 300 bucks or so. If you want more try amping the stock door speakers with a decent 4 way.

I just added JL audio sub and amp- Amazing difference. All what you really need is just more bass. IMO stock unit provides nice and clean sound. I am planning replacing fronts down the road, but I'm pretty happy with my set up.
To much money they want for st0ck speakers, at least they look to me no different from what you have in your truck, all what it adds is more power. Might as well install good brand speakers for same money.
    Just my couple of cents.

    Edit: but I know nothing!

I've had an OEM Audio system now for about 5 months. I installed it in two stages - 6 speakers first and after a month, the amp and sub. I wanted to see how much of a difference the stock head unit made with just speakers and to tell you the truth, it was pretty damn good. That is until I added the sub and amp. I think it sounds fantastic considering your still using the stock head unit. I'd have happily gotten the JBL system but didn't want the premium package.

Overall, I give it 2 thumbs up.

I have a nice calibration mic that I use for home audio tweaking with my DSP amp so I can mess with settings as long as the amp is capable of accepting the adjustments.

I've had mine for about a month and I'm very happy with it. I think they make their own speakers, and they are much better than the factory ones. The magnets weigh about 5 times as much as the stock. But if you want big bass, this isn't the system. It will rattle the rearview mirror, but it doesn't hit like 2 12s. An 8" sub with a sealed, relatively small enclosure can only do so much.

I posted pictures a while back.

The stock speakers use neo magnets which are very strong in a small size.

I think I am going to go this route...

    - JL audio front speakers ($100)
    - JL audio 5 channel amp ($300)
    - ********* EZQ box which is a line out converter/ DSP in one. ($300)
    - ********* box ($150?)
    - ********* no splice wiring kit ($50?)
    - some sub that works with the small enclosure ($150)

That should get me by and will be under $1000

Has anyone heard both the OEM+ and the JBL system? Any thoughts on how the OEM+ compares?

Looking to get the OEM+ system since I'll be selling my auto w/JBL for a manual soon.
