The people who would hate moving the factory to Japan are the same people that already hate on Toyota for being a non American company.

God damnit, I have an OR. Someone ruined the quicksand color for me (luckily I have MGM) by saying it looks like sick dog diarrhea on the carpet. And you just ruined the grill for me. I will never be able to unsee electric razor when I look at the front of the truck.

I wonder if the passenger side matches the driver side. I could see where the bed was added after the cab was assembled in a different area of the plant. Actually if the truck is painted by a robot, the bed would have to be attached later or the fender flair would be the same color.

A pickup built in Japan would be subject to the "Chicken Tax" and would add roughly 25% to the price tag, or about $9750 on that truck.

that is why all the Japanese manufacture their US destination trucks in the US.

Have you spoke with a salesman? Unfortunately every salesman I've bought my tacomas from is hilariously misinformed and barely knows the product they are trying to sell.

 

There's been talks as part of the new trade deals of removing it, it primarily shields domestic big 3 which Im sure was lobbied by them back when it was enacted in 63.

 

They are built in Japan but not subject to the chicken tax in full by qualifying as a passenger vehicle (essentially 4 doors + seats and no cargo box).

Highly doubtful, I've seen a few like this along with the ones that have off road stickers on sports and vice versa.

 

It allows them to keep shoving bigger and bigger trucks down peoples throats. (Markup on a fullsize truck is easier to hide) The chicken tax is a big reason the small size truck has disappeared from the market.

 

When I worked for GMC, we would get trucks in with Chevy hub caps on one side, GMC on the other.

 

Totally, I'll trade mine in today!
