Sounds like they reset the codes and sent him home.

Why is he a lazy tech? If the op bought contaminated fuel then why is it a warranty issue? At some point the vehicle owner needs to step up and take responsibility.
A loose gas cap would take an Evap test to run and that only happens with specific criteria being met-not easy to do. It certainly doesn't happen by merely starting the truck.
A faulty cps as you call it would set a dtc or cause the engine to not start, typically not start.

I never said it was a warranty issue. If it is bad gas then yes, it is customer pay. However, if it was determined to be bad gas, then OP should have been shown a gas sample, and it should have been offered to him to drain gas. He should not have been let go to run gas out, unless he decided that would be the route he would take. The other concern here is the OP states truck runs just fine, not a symptom of bad gas.
An emissions code would be an indicator of gas cap, step one would be check gas cap, reset light, test drive vehicle.
I would not lean toward cps right now, that was brought up by another member. I am not saying that is not the issue, but, there are other things to rule out also.
With the truck running fine I would ask for a gas sample before believing the bad gas theory.

I agree that a gas sample should have been taken. And at that point an estimate given.
As far as "emission" codes, well the check engine will illuminate when the ecu determines that the engine is polluting the air at 1.55 times more than the allowable. Many things can turn the light on. Contaminated fuel doesn't necessarily mean that the driver will notice a poor running condition. The dtc's could have been lean codes, insufficient activity for the AF sensors, low AF sensor voltage, high voltage .......
    Lots of possibilities.
I'm not trying to be rude or disrespectful, just not always the techs fault lol
But there are some that leave a lot to be desired.
If you want your truck taken care of them get to know a good tech. Talk to em and ask for them when your truck needs maintenance or a repair performed. ✌️

No worries, I did not take it as rude or disrespectful.
I know its not always the techs fault, I am in the tech world(not automotive), but I do know a few lazy techs in our area.
I also have built a customer base and have several that will come in and make sure that I am the only one that touches their boat, or if I am off that day they will come back another day, so I know what you mean by building a tech/customer relationship.
I hope OP gets this figured out and that it is something simple.

I would pour a bottle of Heet in your gas tank. It won't hurt it.

^^^ That and I bet CPS getting ready to take a crap. The CPS goes haywire when it gets hot. Let truck sit for 16min to cool off and start up and go.

The only time I've seen vehicles have trouble with gas is when they accidentally put diesel in the tanks at the station. I've filled my cars up in some of the most remote filthy BFE gas stations in Nevada and California and have never had a problem. Gas usually all comes from the same place anyway.

Light went out for 3 days, then it came back on. I filled up after it got to 2 gals of gas left at a different location while light was off. I took it to a different dealer. He didn't think it was water in the gas. He ran a test, got the same results, catalytic converter. He printed 7 pages of steps, reset the code, everything was OK. Left the dealership, light came back on. He thinks its the catalytic converter.

As a tech, I'd have put a converter on it the first time.

Covered by federal emissions warranty. 8/80k
