This. All I did was avoid redline and switched up speeds between 5th and 6th while highway driving at first.

In the end, my experience with test driving the MT in the Tacoma had me reconsidering whether I really wanted to make that a must-have for my next vehicle.

Adding to this equation was that for 2017, Toyota Canada removed the option to have a TRD Sport double cab *without* sunroof, and my head hits the headliner in Tacomas equipped with the sunroof. So the only option left was the TRD OR AC, but I want to be able to carry people in a second row... SO... less and less options, how pig-headed am I to be about this?

So in the end, I must bid adieu to the MT club... Still a fan, but not a card-carrying member... Today I bought a 2016 4Runner Trail Edition instead with the reliable 5AT transmission. The next few years will tell if I regret this choice. I did like the feel of the engine in the T4R's 4.0 and the unabashed straightforwardness of the transmission.

Keeping my current MT vehicle in the family though. My daily until now has been a unicorn 2005 Toyota RAV4 5MT Limited/Leather, which took me 9 months to find when I bought it. Even at a still relatively low 120K miles, it had little worth as a trade-in so instead it's heading off to my dad's paddock, to join its brethren the aforementioned 1990 Toyota Pickup, as well as a 1998 4Runner he also has (both with manual transmissions.)

Maybe in a few years I'll end up getting a 2018+ MT Tacoma, who knows. For now it an auto 4Runner though.

Joined the club today boys! Feels really smooth in the box and clutch compared to my 2012. As long as I have a right arm and a left leg, I'll be driving a manual!

If you lose those you can just move to Europe and drive a manual over there :D

I broke my foot once when I had my manual trans Scion, had to finesse it with one good leg. Wasn't easy and I drove as little as I had to, but I survived 6 weeks...might have been the only time I wanted an auto in my life.

I bet, I can't even really imagine how I could make it work with an automatic let alone a manual... be like learning all over again but harder (having to 'un-learn' the way I know how).

    Mostly stuff I built.
Did the same thing... Used a hi-lift handle to push the clutch on starts and stops, floated it the rest of the time.

I've always gone buy the theory that you should always address all the engine cycles and hit all the rev points during the break in. They only 'should not's' are to maintain a single engine speed for an extended period and excessively free-rev the engine. Other than that the rings and bearings should all be put through their full paces during the break-in cycle.

I actually found RHD driving manual with my left hand very simple and easy transition to do, and this included driving in London after landing in the morning on a sleepless overnight redeye flight. Don't over think things, definitely don't shy away from it if you have the opportunity.

The best driving vacations I've had are weeks spent in Scotland and Ireland bombing around the countryside in torque-y diesel sedans. Until I managed to run off the narrow single track road in the mountains near Kerry and had to be rescued by Hertz from the middle of nowhere... But even that was an adventure.

haha, just realized I worded that a little funny. Fractured my foot jumping over a fence wearing sandals (bad idea).

The Scion's clutch was actually buttery smooth, I miss it compared to my '04 Tacoma sometimes. But only sometimes.

Ahh...I've spent most of my life doing things physically that turned out to be really bad ideas! :)

I've got 6000 miles on my MT 2016 Tacoma, and I've just about gotten used to the clutch and shifting. Been driving MT vehicles for 55 years.

    Just getting started
Hey guys! Looking to regear in the near future to 4:56. Would like to get some feedback from people that regeared. I just put on 285's I'll run these for a while but, my main objective is 35's at some point.

My truck is not my daily, it's my weekend vehicle. I try to get off the pavement at least once a month. I don't tow anything, but if I need to I want to be able to handle it. So is 4:56 the way to go?

Trying to figure out if what I'm feeling are driveline vibes are something else. When I'm accelerating through 3rd gear I get a low humming vibration that comes and goes in roughly a 1 second pattern. (Vibrates 1sec, stops for 1sec, vibrated for 1sec, stops for 1sec).

Feels like I'm driving on a road that has grooves in it every 30ft that I'm running over.

Seems to happen around 40-45mph but I've noticed it only in 3rd gear. I have 3degree shims and a CB drop installed. Not sure what else I can do.
