    Hi

Im looking at buying a 2003 rear wheel drive tacoma.

The guy who is selling it says the issue is a RR Lock, and the truck squeals tires when it goes around a corner / should be towed.

Any idea if this is an expensive fix and what needs to be done?

    Thanks!

Are you saying the rear diff is ALWAYS locked (regardless of whether the switch is 'on' or 'off') or that the wheels squeal ONLY when the rear diff is locked? If yes to the 1st question, that's a problem. If yes to the second one then that's normal. If the rear locker is stuck engaged, you may be able to pull the actuator off, manually unlock it as a temporary fix then troubleshoot it later once home and you have time to play w/it. Is the rear diff lock lamp on the dash illuminated?

Yeah sounds like the differential is stuck on "locked"...if the tires are both getting equal power all the time then they are going to squeal and hop like crazy on surface streets when you're making a turn. Hopefully it's just an electrical issue and the device itself isn't stuck in the locked position.
