    Not. A. Chance.

Top speed is only power limited if redline (fuel cut ie rev limiter) cannot be achieved in high gear.

Given adequate HP to do that, top speed becomes gear limited. Doesn't matter how much HP there is. Only difference that makes is that you hit top speed more quickly.

Not to mention the practicality of aero and other factors.

    http://www.apexgarage.com/tech/gear_ratios.shtml

For the RPM number in this calculator, use where the rev limiter actually kicks in RPM wise, not the painted redline on the dash. A scangauge will tell you actual RPM when fuel cut occurs. You won't hurt anything.

I think it's kind of funny that OP thinks reving the engine will hurt it.

Don't motors blow up if you take them passed 3k? At least that's why I assume minivans are always merging onto the freeway at 30mph? o_O

ok ok, i learned my lesson, don't post unless you know what you're talking about :smack:. I was just going off the transmission and the numbers, like I said but I dont really know much about how the motor handles this stuff. Now I know

Why is 2017 different? Add a few hundred rpm to the redline or gearing?

Toyota probably adjusted the fuel cut off for 2017. #lawyers

Edit: or one is a sport and one is an or, and the fuel cut off is based on the stock tire rating?

I wouldn't be afraid to bounce off the limiter on the 3.5L but I have an auto. Rods and crank are forged and should handle the stress. Gears are a little stretched to push the rpm's in 1st and 2nd if your calc is right. Previous vehicle 2014 GT mustang 5.0 at 11:1 compression (stock) with only a forged crank would bounce all day at 7.2k rpm. The new 5.0 (2015+) are fully forged internals bouncing at 7k rpm with 2.3L blowers with 1000+ hp at the engine.

Not a lot people I would assume would push the 3.5L in the tacoma since its a truck but "technically" the engine is capable.

Rev limiter is a harsh and quick reminder to shift...But its a "car engine"so bouncing off the limiter shouldn't matter....lmmfao
