Now I have a dumb question... Do you think it would help to put a colder plug in the truck to slow down the point of the firing ?

Never thought of that but I would do just about anything to get the ping ping ping ping gone. Maybe someone else could confirm that?

I have read of some folks with similar problems to ours using iridium plugs with some success.

    More reading I guess.......

Good news is that the KBB trade in value is more than I owe. I hate to say it but I'm considering all options and backup options. $$$ monthly is too much to listen to this thing rattle every time I accelerate.

Tell the dealer I have a great Tacoma to trade in with No Problems Whatsoever! A fine machine it is! You folks should be able to resell this baby in a day!

I was under the impression that colder plugs were really only recommended for engines running forced induction, but if you are experiencing spark knock then I don't see why it wouldn't help. That's the whole reason I ended up going with colder plugs, eliminated all of the spark knock I was having.

A friend of mine is a mechanic for Toyota and he say's he wouldn't buy a 2016 with the 3.5 because there's a problem with the vacuum from the smaller motor. It doesn't create enough vacuum or something. I don't have all the details I just know he advised against it. So, again I'm back at trading in on the 2017 , $ 40, 000.00 truck. Problem with this is it has the 3.5 also. I even looked at the Tundra but the fuel mileage is outrageous.

It's a sad day in the neighborhood when someone depends on me to fix their truck. LOL.

My dad just bought a Rubicon Unlimited three months ago with a 10 year 200,000 miles warranty. Front and rear lockers and electric swaybar disconnect. $44k

just say'n........... more Toyota brand blasphemy

I love my Tacoma OR. It's a blast wheeling it but the damn sounds it makes are terrible.

Don't know about yours but if you listen close to mine , sounds like gravel in the motor at times. As someone told me before, turn up the radio.

I'm fascinated by the MAP ECU3 tuner. It seems like it can do what I want. I'm not too sure that I wouldn't mess the truck up worse. I know a little about electronics but usually I work on someones elses expensive things. Splicing wires on a truck I still owe $$$ on..............

yeah, you just think your truck is making noise now ! Let me put a tuner on it and screw around with that ! Probably sound like a diesel when I'm finished.

Hate hearing you guys having problems out of the 15s. Mine has 10k on it now and have not had these problems. When did the spark knock start showing up?

I bought mine in Feb 15 and drove it for 7k miles. Then gave to my wife to drive. For all I know it happend last Summer some when the Ol Lady daily drove it.

I started driving again at 27k miles (this Spring) to save gas vs the 5.4V8 in my "real truck". The Summer heat brought it out louder and louder. Only ran 87 Octane in it since new. Hey, the thing is rated for it. Rattled all day today on 89 Octane.

That sucks. Hope mine doesnt start that. Ive driven beaters most of my life in order to avoid payments and I am not willing to make payments on a knocking truck. Got my fingers crossed. Best of luck to you guys having this problem. Curious to hear the outcome.

Getting 20-21mpg on the highway is ok but not great. When the Ford was at 40k miles with stock tires the best I got was 18mpg consistenly.

Bought Toyota because of the 85 Model I had with 35's on it and straight front axle was a beast. So much fun, hardly ever got stuck even on ridiculous trails. I used to drink a lot back then and wheel the hell out of it.

Yeah, thought I'd get ahead by selling my 07 to my buddy for his son. After I drove it for 8 yrs. I sold it to him for 16k and took that money and invested in this Great 2015 Tacoma. The 07 was great, never a single problem.
