    Have a recovery plan and some appropriate tools for the terrain. Let someone know where you are going and when you will return.

    Well what's your location? A little mud in California is easily traversable. A little mud in the south could get you stuck faster than you can spell stuck. Sticks are fine and provide plenty of traction. Your best bet is the locker and decent All Terrain or Mud Terrain tires. You should be fine.
