Crunched it pretty good. I'll be looking to relocate it in the near future but for now I want to replace the connector. I know I can order a stock replacement harness but all I really need is a new plastic body, the wiring, pins and connectors are in good shape.

Anybody use an aftermarket body to do this?

    Thanks.

Yes I got the hopkins 7 plus 4 way replacement from Amazon or etrailer, 21$ as opposed to $150+ for the stock harness/connector replacement, i believe toyota does sell just the plastic piece but it is 50$+, some people have had luck using the 2016 7x4 as well

EDIT- below is the correct one I used, it has a dust boot

Relocating it makes sense as well, as you have discovered it is exposed to damage in the stock location

How did you smash it? With my ball hitch extended out, I cant see how the plug would get crushed

It is easy to do, and a very common occurrence on the 2nd gen. the connector drags on the ground and is destroyed, relocating it before it happens is ideal.

Ideally I'd like to take this one apart and use the case/enclosure of a new one. No wire cutting or splicing. I'm looking for someone who has done it and can maybe suggest a brand to use. I've seen several under $10 but it's hard to tell if they can be taken apart or not.

Secondary to that I can always cut the wires and crimp the new one on.

The one I recommended requires no splicing, but you would need to cut and strip the end of the harness. It has screw style wire clamps, you can see them in the photos in the link. I found it easy to do.

This is a pic of the rear, and it includes a dust boot that covers the connections and wire. It also has 4 flat, eliminating the need for an adapter (10$, and easily lost) 4 flat covers most utility trailers

I second getting one with screws. It's a lot less hassle than having to mess with crimp style ones. Chances are you'll have to cut the wiring anyways to install a new 7-pin connector.

    This is the best answer.

If you don't have experience soldering and using shrink tubing.this is a perfect opportunity to perfect your skills.

I used a dremel with a cutoff wheel, I should have used a hole saw but it was what I had on hand, not to hard t h e metal is thin there
