I got that vacuum canister on my parts truck. If you need it, let me know.

Having more hits online when I search for vacuum surge tank, oddly enough. Since I dont want to pay 200 dollars for a vac tank, couldnt I use a similar one from another auto, does capacity have to be exact or is there room for play?

I was going to mention that to you. There is no reason why you have to use that specific vacuum reservoir.

Your emission system needs a steady vacuum to operate efficiently. When you accelerate, the motor does not continue to make a vacuum. the cannister is there to keep a steady vacuum until the motor goes to a steady speed.

    The Bed is stock...ish

Dude. The tank stores vacuum. The vacuum is needed to operate the "vacuum operated front ADD (Automatic Disconnect Differential) actuator". This basically mean that you don't have old school manual locking hubs (you know, the ones you have to get out and lock). The ADD actuator is mounted on the passenger side of the front diff, directly next to the 3rd member. I have not looked to see what year your truck is, but it's got to be 95.5-00.

You will either need a new tank, or a suitable replacement to have 4wd again, or you can swap to manual hubs (Google).

The link elnip posted directly above is for pre Tacoma ADD systems, so they look different than what you will see on your truck, but function the same.

I knew you would figure it out. It's funny, my 1986 ford Broncos had one, it was a tomato juice can! Every time I popped that hood I would laugh. Some parts supplier was selling that to ford for big dollars! It was a factory part, but I know it was a tomato juice can.
