why do people keep making this dumb statement. 3" over stock is 3" over stock. I could care less how it compares to older trucks.

I think the same thing every time I read that. It's like hill billy logic or some thing. I have a 3 inch lift, but when people ask I don't say "Well, actually it's a 4 inch lift compared to a 2 gen Tacoma."

I appreciate everyone's feedback. Very valuable and I respect everyone's opinions.

As far as the 3" lifts
Does anyone have suggestions as to what brands? I know I was looking at rough country and tuff country as well as a Toytec...any others? Links are always appreciated

    Call Marie at Headstrong offroad.

They have a solid rep for recommending the right hardware.

You want to use good stuff and only do it once. I mean it's a $35k-ish truck. Why use cheap parts?

Sorry you are wrong because all parts are the same like ucas and stuff that going 3 on a 2016 will have the same problems as 4 on a 2015 so cvs will get dickered and all that easier and your wheel gap will be larger I did 3" on mine dropped it down to a 2.5 and it's about the same measurements as my friends 2nd gen with a 3" lift and rides better besides bro lean is weak on a truck don't care who you are less is more

If you are going to try to be corrective, instructional or insulting, at least quote the person you are addressing so we know who you are speaking to.

And please. Use some punctuation. Reading run on sentences will get folks out of breath. :p

I did hit quote weird, and yes I just woke up and was a little groggy and lazy. I was trying to be more instructional then come across like a dick, while also throwing in my opinion about Cali lean that I despise lol.

Well taco lean is when it is lower on one half of the truck ie: drivers front and rear side because of gas tank and battery and driver weight. Cali lean or bro lean is basically reverse rake so front sits higher looks like the truck is squatting and taking a dump

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
Because it's important in understanding suspension geometry and performance. If you like driving on cinder blocks just install your spacer lift and put a big "TACOMABEAST" sticker on your truck and be done with it.

Can you fit a 285/70/17 tire with a 3" lift?

All depends on the width and offset of the wheels...

did you need to do a diff drop?
I've been thinking of the OME BP51 which is a 2inch lift and wondering if I need a diff drop as well.

I'm not sure what the standard for that is with the 3rd gens, I know on the 2nd gens diff drops aren't recommended but with 1st gens they are. Someone else will have to chime in on that

Word, I know I was looking at the RCI skid plate and it says can't fit if you do a diff drop.
But on toytecs website they say they recommend a diff drop for 2"+ lift.

I'd rather not do a diff drop, but I don't want to start dealing with CV problems. Fuck I wish I didn't need to lift but you can''t fit a 33" tire on factory lol.

Like @Cleanwater Bill said, especially for canadian market the new DCOR is almost 49K out the door. Last thing I want is to start fucking shit up just from mods and using cheap parts. I'll break enough shit on the trails, I'd rather not be breaking shit before even getting on the trails.
I've had enough of modifying cars only to cause problems with reliability. Very reason I'll leave the engine alone on the taco. Just need to fit a decent sized tire so I can get on the trails to get to all the camping spots I like. All the trails recommend 33"+
