After the round trip from Philly to Myrtle Beach, the CC is working just fine and no longer locking up in 4th gear. However, now that i'm back home in Philly and the hills...same old story with the gear searching. Oh, and I still have the an occasional howl that occurs around 55 mph when you let off the gas. Shame that such a good looking truck just isn't up to par.

EDIT: Perhaps not up to par isn't a fair statement. Should be better from what I've heard about the beloved Taco. Overall, still like it a lot. Just a couple of things that clearly should have been better to keep Taco heads above the competition.

I know Ihave a lift and tires on mine, that being said I had the tsb, and I saw the tech with the laptoo in my truck. I don't have a sticker. Mine still constantly down shifts and barely uses 6th gear. Scheduled the 16th for regear to 4.88! My fingers are crossed! Talking with several guys at JT'S and ecgs, they all think these new Tacoma's were under geared from the get go, and any mods just made the issue worse! I did the lift and love the truck other than the shifting issues, so now I am ponying up! Hope it works.

I went into the local Toyota dealer and complained my Tacoma was shifting like a "drunk epileptic monkey". He barely flinched and said "no problem, we know how to fix that". They did the upgrade and I drove the 50 miles home and it was like driving a new truck. I am very happy with the upgrade.

The best description of Tacoma shifting issues"drunk epileptic monkey" . Was the upgrade you described t-ab 0077-16? Or a more current fix?

@socal996 I heard here on the forum that the dealership in Temecula is good. I bought my Taco in Escondido but Im having my TSB done right now 9/3 in El Cajon. If you have not done yours yet I can refer you to my service advisor. Pm me and I'll try to get back to you soon as I can.

I had the TSB done a month ago. My truck has started up again with the lunging from P to R, and then from R to D. It's not as extreme as before the upgrade, but it's definitely occurring. When they first did the upgrade, it stopped for the first week or so. It shifts down the road & on the freeway fine. Haven't taken it over any hills yet.

Just had TSB-0077-16 downloaded to my 2016 (Nov 2015 build) TRD 2WD 3.5L Automatic yesterday. I was plagued with the morning delay from R to D shift every day now for 13,000 mi. My fluid levels were perfect from the factory ( I have the tow pckg and cooler ). The TSB fixed the slow R to D problem perfectly. Thank God. Still feel the small surges at idle when backing with a cold engine. I think thats part of the cold start programming. After just a few mins that surge is gone. Other than that, no other changes noticed. Shift points are all the same. Mileage and power are exactly the same. Still got 23.1 mpg last night on a 25 mi. drive at 70-75 mph. ( OC Fwys ) 19 around town today. Im actually relieved the mileage didn't change. When I need the power and higher shift points the ECT button works great or I can shift manually in Sport mode. Now all I've got left is the sidewind door seal noise that will return this Fall/Winter with the Santa Ana winds.

got my truck back yesterday and the delay from P to R or D was definitely gone after the TSB update. I was expecting my truck to drive like how i got it brand new from the dealer and would re learn all my shifting patterns and what not, but after the second day, the truck feels so much better. Shifting points from 1st 2nd and 3rd are great. It feels really good to pick up speed without any delay. The dead feel from 30 to 40 miles is also gone. Overall, I love the truck even more now.

My taco is the first truck I've owned and I believe I am experiencing the issues mentioned, my vin is also included on the list.

I don't want to be a vehicle-hypochondriac. If my vin is including on the list... will my dealership preform the tsb when I ask? or do they not have to unless they find the issues I'm speaking of?

The way I got mine is I called the service rep on where I bought my truck and set up an appointment for my Transmission issue. Went in and I bought in a copy of the TSB thats attached to the first page of this thread. The service advisor called in a Tech and he said Im gonna need to leave my truck at the dealership for about an 6 hours to get the truck fully cooled down so they can replicate my problems and do the reflash for my transmission. They even gave me a shuttle ride to my house and even picked me up after the service was done. overall it was a pretty easy thing to do

Thank's for the advice! I'm at work and just printed out the file.
My dealership is brand new to selling Toyota's so hopefully they know what I'm talking about. If not I've contacted someone else in my area on youtube that got it done at a competitor's. :D

It has been over 1000 miles since the TSB and I took a 250 mile rural up and down hill 1 day drive and brings total miles to 2975 . I did not use cruise , and had it in D . Via computer it showed 21.9 to 22.4 ,and paper and pen after a refill of fuel , I got 22.23 mpg .(249 miles and took 11.2 gallons of 89 oct., Valero gas , same pump both ends . 2 people in truck, and I have a fiberglass Echo cap on it , TRD off road long box , AirCon. off all of the trip.
I did not baby it and drove 55 to 65 on open rode and speed limits in towns . There were stop lights /stop signs and parking for shopping etc. Very little flat roads , lots of 35 to 40 mph curves on the rural route .Shifting was smooth and did not seem out of place when down shifting up hills etc. Rpms at 60 were about 1400 to 1500 . I never felt I had to add much peddle to get up a hill . (never had to push a lot extra to get and upshift) . Never saw or felt flairs on the tach . Always upshifted at to of hills as expected it should.
I am Very happy with this result . I hope it continues . Gas mpg now better than before the TSB. The truck is a joy to drive . the wife cannot believe we get this good of mpgs. in a truck .

I hate to sound like a broken record, but I had the TSB done a few days ago and I'd have to agree with the majority. The truck does feel A LOT better than it did before. It feels like driving my 2014 4 Runner, shifts pretty smoothly and it has stopped hunting for gears. The dealer did not check the trans fluid, but they did say if the problem shows back up again or I notice anymore issues to call them to schedule another appt with them to leave it overnight and have the fluid physically checked.

Nice, mine started acting up on Friday with only 640 miles driven. The truck ran so rough it felt like 5 instead of 6 cylinders and the transmission felt as it was starting out in 6th gear and not wanting to shift! So strange that I was afraid to drive it into the dealer and decided to have it towed in. Next morning, the service advisor called and told me they had driven my truck 14 miles and that it was operating "As Designed" I swear these advisors are being coached by Toyota to say "As Designed". Well, it only took me 10 miles to duplicate the trouble on the way back home again. Thanks for the tip

I tried to buy a Tacoma from Temecula and they were terribly rude......I bought from Toyota San Diego and was very happy to get a really good discount.....Took the truck to Temecula for the TSB and the SA did not know what I was talking about...Said he had never heard of that kind of a problem...Then I handed him the TSB...Also asked for them to "manually" check the tranny fluid....he wrote it up, but nothing was done...only the TSB for shifting......I asked if they did if they checked the fluid and he said yes...They scanned it...I asked to speak to the tech was was told I could not....I was there about 3hrs for the TSB and that was with an appointment arriving at 0600.......I will be doing any further service at Escondido....they are really good from what I have learned from friends and other owners

Just took mine in for its 5k service. Had tranny fluid checked which was at level (yes, I insisted that I be there when it was checked, they argued, I prevailed) mine was built early May 2016 in San Antonio so maybe they check now when adding coolers and plumbing for towing package before delivery. Had the flash tranny update and it seems to have remedied all issues with the tranny being the only issue I have had to date.

so was there a trick to let dealership know what they need to do, service advisor says over the phone that my VIN # does not fall in the TSB. i guess worst case scenario i'll have to go on a drive with a technician to reproduce the issues.
