Thank you for the great mod write up! Seeing as the green and red wire is the target for those of us wanting to just eliminate the circuit without a switch, is it safe to assume that there is a access to it under the hood that doesn't require contortion? I am sorry if this is covered elsewhere.

I didn't need to contort too bad to just cut the wire (didn't do a switch), and I'm a big guy (6' 5", 250lbs). Didn't even have to take anything apart.

Thank you. I can't believe there are some of us who are modifying their trucks to have daytime lights and the rest of us just want them off. Whatever happened to the customer having control over the accessories in their vehicles? I guess the insurance industry really does rule us.

Just finished. Just cut the circuit. I can't imagine any circumstance they would be needed. Thanks to all for the instructions.

Aloha guys if anyone can answer this question for me I'd really liked to know bc I'm scratching my head on this one.
I have a sr5 2011 4x4 Tacoma. I wanted to delete my dtrl. I had cut the red and green wire like in the directions. Tested it and I had no blinkers or dtrl in the front. So I panic and re connected the wire back to stock. And NOW it works.......blinkers are fine and no dtrl it's perfect. But my question is. How on earth did I complete the mod by cutting the wire and reconnecting it? Did I confuse the brain? Will the dtrl come back? Did I burn a fuse? Will it break the truck?

Red green wire was loose or connector was loose. You fixed it. Nothing to worry about!

Aloha again so it's a new morning here in Hawaii and the dtrl came back on. I knew it. I had just confused the brain for a bin till it would reset

Found this thread through search feature and was soooo glad to find it. I have a 2009, as well, and have the early stages of the drl's melting the lens. I missed the cut off date for Toyota to replace them, on their $. I am going to take this a step further. I found 8 led lightheads from Phillips that can be mounted in grill or front fascia. These are a simple install right to the battery posts. There is no switch required, as the brain box detects voltage drop at the battery (on ignition start up) & turns of the led drl's. Inversly, when voltage increases (alternator off w/ ignition off), they turn off. I really like the modern look of the nice bright leds on new cars, so look foreward to this modification. I really agree that the led drl's are an outstanding safety feature, as they are really noticeable, especially when glancing in your blind spot for a lane change. Thanks for posting!

Finically found it. At 77 I am not laying on my back trying to make the connection. Removed the harness an will add long wire that I can cut later and add a switch. Much easier splicing in wire on work bench. Did this stuff for 25 years of my career with the CHP Did a lot soldering on my back under the dash, no more. Well that was bummer cut and soldered the green/red wire and connect the switch nothing didn’t do anything No DTRL. Pulled the harness out and check continuity wire to black plug open other side of cut ok. Ordered new harness will be here Wednesday $16 . Either wire go to hot while soldering or it was broken getting it out of under the dash. All soldering was done on work bench using a small Butane tour has which I has used for year, should have use soldering iron.

I went on a trip up north a few months back and must’ve shaken something up because when I got home I realized I had the amber DTRL on the passenger side working and the one on the drivers side was out. Thought the bulb popped but I checked the turn signals and it still works. Did this mod thinking it would solve my problem and just shut the passenger side dtrl off but all it did was allow me to turn on and off the one on the drivers side. It’s very confusing but have no idea how this happened. Anyone have a clue what’s wrong?

Sounds like a loose or disconnected wire.

Unfortunately im not much help after that. I would just turn the other one off and be done with it.

Got a set of Spyder headlights with a LED bar for DTRL would like to use them without OE DTRL can I cut the Green/Red wire and splice the Spyder DTRL wire into it and the plug? 2010TRD Sport. While looking under the dash I found a Green/Red wire in a connecort behind the drivers kick panel on the bottom near the floor. Any one know if that is the DTRL wire, might save some twisting the bending. Thanks for any help

Did this mod with a 2012 Tacoma tax pro. All this does is dim my amber lights. Any idea why?

Did you cut the wire and leave it cut, or did you put a switch in the middle?

I cut the wire, extended both ends so I had room to work with and added a male and female connector which I can unplug and the lights will dim.

So essentially what you are saying is that you cut the wire and the lights only dim? Are you sure you cut the right wire?

99% sure I did. I will check again when I get the chance. But usually I quadruple check before hacking at the electrical components on my truck. But I will check again
