So I am new to Tacoma world and also looking forward to buying a 2016 Tacoma soon. Any advice & any input on what to look for visually or what to expect in test drive. And how get a good deal or at least not get screwed on price.

    Welcome!

You can go online and get some price quotes to take to the local dealer. The third dealer I went to had the truck/options I wanted and matched the online quote.

Yep, a newer GEN2 (2015 and earlier) would be my choice. Good luck with whatever you go with though!

be very patient in your selection. Don't let dealers lie to you and tell you how great a deal you are getting but "you have to take it now". Don't be sucked into extended warranty. Tell the dealer if the truck is so great why do I need breakdown insurance. Don't take payments longer than 48 months unless you get great financing.

As others have mentioned above, take a serious look at the problems of the 2016 in the 3rd gen section, and maybe reconsider to a 2nd gen instead.

Look at prices online. Try Edmunds, kellysbluebook or Truecar.com to see what others in your region are paying. You can also get free dealer quotes that you can compare without getting pounced on by over eager salespeople at the lot.

Get a 2016 with a manual transmission. Smooth as butter, fun to drive.

I thought I'd come in here and see what your go fund me page looked like, just for giggles.

My bad. I'll show myself out.

(Costco member? AAA? They have vehicle buying plans that might help) This thread https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/what-toyota-region-to-buy-in.443026/, particularly post 8, might be helpful to you.

Most dealers have an internet section. Spell out the options you want in a simple email, send it to every dealer you are willing to get to, tell them you want a cash and carry deal, and to send their best quote. Compare to your research data.

Walk out of the deal, and tell them you don't think your being treated fair. Trust me they will contact you with a better deal. Also Nadaguides dot com will give you the invoice price, and the dealers could sell you at invoice and still make a little, but doubt it. BIGGEST THING, use the internet and go in with your price. Dont talk payments, dont talk trade until you have set the out the door price. Then get multiple dealers to look at your trade. Then go to your local bank and credit unions before letting Toyota financing take a run at it, but you need to do all you credit checks with in a few days of each other.

Good Luck, and remember its your job to keep money in your pocket and its their job to make money for the dealership
