So when we go camping or to the beach, our last two vehicles had the doorcode key pad and we were able to purposely lock the keys in the car as to not have to worry about losing them or getting them wet. My Tacoma wont let me lock the key inside short of disconnecting the battery and locking each door manually, thats a pita and I have no idea how id get the doors unlocked again. Short of just throwing the keys in one of the cubby holes in the bed, is there another way im missing of storing the key in the vehicle but being able to secure it?

Have you disabled the fob? You can then lock it in the vehicle, keep the little fob key on you to get back in.

No I didnt know if disabling it was an option. In a moment of lapsed memory I forgot that its probably in the owners manual.

It is in the manual, lol. Easy to forget. Just hold down lock, then hit unlock twice at the same time. You know it works when you go to grab the door handle and it won't unlock.

I like that idea. But depending on how long you are going to be away from the truck (and how long someone could mess with it), It might be risky. Someone could dial up all combinations in a couple of hours. I would prefer to see a fingerprint release - with a key backup.

10,000 codes possible. That would take more than 1 hour unless thief is super lucky. He better off breaking a window. Up until now I never even heard of a safe like this.

Figure 2 seconds per code. 20,000 seconds. OK. 5 and 1/2 hours to do all 10000. It they start at 0000, and go up, if your code is less than 5000, they would get it in about 2 hours. You might be gone all day - or even 2-3 days.

im not going to be that far away from the truck so that would work perfectly, honestly leaving it in a cubby hole in the bed will probably be more than sufficient for this trip.

Except for the fact the it fits internally to the receiver and there's a cover that encloses the mount. So the combo panel is not exposed and it would likely take someone 5-6 hours to figure out there was even a safe there to begin with

My brick says it can break a window quicker. If someone wants to steal it they will steal it

Entune under Vehicle Customization has a few adjustments you may can play with and see if that would work. Might try taking your spare key fob and remove the battery and see if it would work like you want it as they show when your battery is dead on the key fob. Then at least you could hide it on the truck ... If it only said Michelob light and little crushed no one would realize it's a holder for keys in the bed.
