i have a 2010 double cab and the rear headrests are about the most annoying thing in the world making it near impossible to see out the back window. i could take them out and put them back when needed, but i have my kids in the car most of the time and taking them out every time is getting to be a huge pain in the ass.
i have seen suggestions of buying the 2012 replacement headrests that fold down, but then i would have to spend a ton of money on the headrests, and then new clazzios black leather covers for those as the ones currently on the truck wouldnt fit with that handle and folding slots

    time for the question.......
are there any other vehicles that have matching posts that would fit in the back seat of a tacoma double cab that are either shorter, or fold down? even if they arent black leather, i would be open to having them re-upholstered to match. but i have heard that there are some 2003 Mercedes Benz ML32 that match. just wanted to see if anyone else knew, or if i shoud just find a matching diameter post and measure between them and start asking random people to take the headrest out of their vehicle to try them out in mine ha ha.

any help or advice or pointing of directions would be appreciated. (please keep the "just take them out", or get bigger mirrors with the bubble thing" comments to a minimum as i do constantly take them out and put them back in, i have put pro-efx towing mirrors on, i have put the rear view mirror riser on, and yes....i do have a backup camera.

thanks in advance for the help

Curious to see any results. I have the fold down ones and love them, but I always keep them down. Can't stand having them up so I feel your pain OP

anyone? i mean i will do all the leg work if needed. but i have a hard time believing i am the first one to try and use headrests from another vehicle, or at least to measure the distance and diameter of the posts to just try other vehicles to see.

I don't really see, aside from price, why you are willing to retrofit a set versus buy the 12+ ones. You said you are willing to get retrofit ones reupholstered so why not just get the ones made for the truck?

Idk if the 05-11 dimensions are exactly like the 12+ besides the folding levers, but if they are why not just get take the clazzios to be cut/resewn to fit the knobs?

5th gen 4Runners have rear fold down headrests so maybe try those as well. They are black fabric.

Took mine out the first week I owned my 2013. They are in a garbage back in a closet. The next time they go on will be when it comes time to sell it. Which will probably after I am cremated.

You could try to find some foldable ones from a salvage yard or on ebay.

I have the folding ones but took them off the first day. Even folded they restricted visibility too much for me. I keep them behind the seat for when I have back seat passengers.

No real solution for this. You kind of just get used to it. I have a 2010 as well that I bought brand new. It bothered me at first but then kind of just got used to it, I use side mirrors ( added blind spot mirrors too) more to see behind me

Left mine in. I wired the camera up to the screen on my head unit and use that for the blind spots. I also use the side mirrors.
