Scenic off-road drives Northern Illinois??

I reside on the border of Illinois and Wisconsin, in Rockford, IL.
Does anyone in the forums have any knowledge of decent trails to just take a drive and enjoy the scenery and camp out as people do in the south! Having a hard time enjoying the north.

 

I was going to Run the T.W.A.T. Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail earlier this year but shit came up and I couldn't. Just google it. Many different sighting on Google.
