Trying to figure out if my plan will work for my 65 C10 project.

I want to put a 4.8 or 5.3 in it as it'll be close to the same cost as rebuilding the I6 230 that's in it.
I want to run a manual trans so the ECU shouldn't need to be tied into the speed sensors, all alarm systems/secondary systems that are not necessary for running.
Would I be better off with a stand a lone ECU system?

is the ECU tied to the AC system or can I have it separate?
