A few days ago my check engine light lit up. I scanned it and it threw 3 codes, P0125= Closed Loop Fuel Control Insufficient Coolant temp; P1130= O2 Sensor Circuit malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1); and P1135= O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1).

So I purchased an up-stream(pre cat) sensor (part#234-9001) from Amazon for around $80. I also purchased a gas cap form O'rileys autoparts which was $10 because someone mentioned it may be as simple as that. I installed them both, cleared the codes..... and now it runs great!!

Moral of the story if you have codes (P0125+P1130+P1135)= Up-stream O2 Sensor and Gas
    cap.

    Pretty much stock right now
I'm dealing with the upstream O2 (Air/Fuel) sensor code right now also. Waiting on the part. Throwing the P0135 code.

My 01 with a 2RZ-FE has P0125+P1153+P0171. Would you recommend the A/F sensor (pre-cat) as well before smoke testing? P0171 is system too lean bank 1.

    Stock. EZ pass.Dump pass.Inspection sticker.Convict printed lic.plates.FG cap.
    01 California had A/F sensor B1S1
Federal emissions 01 had O2 sensor
Check the emissions sticker under hood for Cali or Fed then look up sensor and purchase identical Denso replacement from link below.

Can confirm! I just replaced the A/F sensor a week ago after I got the P0125 + P1135 + P0171 and the check engine light did not return after a lengthy test drive. One of the key signs is that it's a heating circuit issue with the A/F sensor; no heat, no workee. It was Denso part 234-9001 but it didn't come with any fasteners and mine were a corroded mess. I recommend buying a few M8 x 1.25 COPPER flange locking nuts before you start just in case you need to torch and or grind your nuts off like I did mine; mind the studs. old sensor.jpg

Amazing, I’m going to try this. I had mine scanned twice and in total I got all 4 codes mentioned above: P1130, P1135, P0125, and P0171.

    I’ll keep you guys updated

    UPDATE:
This worked like a charm. I got the new A/F sensor off Amazon ($130). Installed it and drove around a bit to get the truck hot. Got home, disconnected the battery for a couple minutes to reset the code. Hooked it back up and the light is off and has stayed off since!

I was stressed before but this was a super easy fix. Thanks OP for the original write up

This sounds like the fix I'm looking for (P1130). I'll try it and give an update.

    *update:

This repair fixed the code. Still failed smog because I didn't know I needed to drive a while before the computer will register the emissions info. The smog tech said I need to drive 150 miles and come back. Whoops. Aside from that everything looks good.

    Revival,

    I’m getting pending codes p1130 and p0420.
Neither of them have actually been thrown and they are getting self wiped from the ecm, but they keep popping up. I’m wondering if I really need to do the a/f or if maybe it’s something else since the codes aren’t being fully thrown. Like a gas cap

No comment on the pending status, but assuming you get an eventual CEL with these codes, I would start with a new A/F sensor to address P1130. P0420 indicates catalyst efficiency below threshold. It means that the rear O2 sensor isn't detecting a sufficient difference from the front A/F sensor. This can be caused by a failed catalyst, failed rear O2 sensor, possibly a failed front A/F sensor, or easiest of all, an exhaust leak.

Before you spend a lot of money on new catalytic convertors, make sure there are no exhaust leaks between the two sensors. A shop will automatically charge you $$$ for new convertors and possibly also a new rear O2 sensor, which will undoubtedly make the code go away, but it could resolve the code because a pesky little exhaust leak is repaired in the course of replacing everything else.

With the truck parked, run the engine and listen/feel for leaks along the exhaust between the two sensors. This is even easier when the engine is cold, because the higher idle, along with condensation in the exhaust will make leaks a bit more obvious. Flanges are a good place to start.

    I appreciate the details,
I did end up getting a denso AF sensor. Drove yesterday to and from work about 2 hours worth of driving. Pending codes haven’t come back up.

There is no way the cat is bad because I just saw my numbers after emissions test and I passed and with flying colors. Either way I’ve got at least 2 years before anymore emissions test. And no more pending codes!
(I have an ultragauge so that’s why I caught the pending codes before they started throwing the code, i have it set to alert for pending codes)

This is good info. I don't know if you can determine this with the ultragauge, but some of the readiness monitors require two complete drive cycles (certain engine parameters must be met to qualify as a drive cycle) to completely set. I'm fairly certain this is the case for EVAP codes as well as P0420, perhaps others as well. You have have achieved the two cycles with your driving yesterday, which would suggest you're in the clear.

If you happen to know about the interaction between pending codes, readiness monitors, and how the ultragauge may shed light on this, I would appreciate an explanation.
