So I have seen a lot of hate for 3rd Gens by both older-gen owners and current 3rd Gen owners. Most of the complaints seem to be from more active Off-Roaders than those who stay on the pavement. Am I wrong? Are there a lot of issues with the trucks for daily driving excluding the fluid level off the lot?

2016s are good trucks most are happy with them. A few have had major issues and a good many have had minor issues which have been taken care of. Don't let this forum keep you from buying one if you are interested.

I think most of the complaints are not so much the problems with the truck (though some are indeed severe), but more with the lackadaisical response from Toyota concerning those problems.

Nobody wants to hear "It's Normal" when your brand new $40k truck is acting up.

If Toyota had stepped up and handled these issues promptly and with professionalism, you would not be seeing all the hate.

On road and off road my truck is great. Best 4-wheeled vehicle I've owned.

I saw another TW member say it, it's worth repeating...

Going on TW and observing "a lot" of problems is similar to going to the hospital and seeing a lot of sick people.

Certain members have had problems from what I can see, and it also seems like it is mainly problems for US models. Not sure if that's because there is a much larger demand for them in the US so they are rushing and taking shortcuts for the US market ones?

Regardless so far the transmission fluid one and possibly the howling differential are the only two I know of that are actually significant problems. The howling diff still isn't confirmed as a mechanical issue since no one knows whats actually causing it. It could just be something like the whistling LCA. Just an annoying sound. Obviously no one wants that but if it doesn't turn out to be a mechanical issue its not that bad. It seems like the issues are a hit and miss. Some have them, some don't. So clearly a quality control issue. Either way, you'll always hear a lot more about those that have problems instead of the 1000s that are enjoying their truck.

Sometimes I think the negative reviews are having a sort of placebo effect on people. Some might have brand new trucks, come on here read a few threads about howling differentials, or low transmission problems and start hearing things when nothing is even wrong with their truck.
