I was planning on replacing the headlights on my taco with some new projector lights (and I don't have enough to go for LSC15's quality retrofit services).

I was looking at these two assemblies:

    Black Assembly

    Silver Assembly

They're about $160 for a set. Are these a good idea to install? Am I overpaying? I can't seem to find an assemblies cheaper than these. One more thing, I wouldn't have to alter the fuses or factory wiring harness correct? I'm not too sure (don't want my fusebox to catch on fire).

    Thanks for your help.

I would avoid those kind of prefab headlights at all cost Theyre all garbage with fake projectors and if the come with halos, the halos are dull white/greenish and usually burn out in a few months if they last that long.
If you want to do projectors, I would just save up and have a proper retrofit done or do it yourself, should be really affordable since you have a 98 and replacement headlight housings are cheap

It doesn't have to be completely top of the line, just something better than the stock headlights that will last a while. How hard would fabricating them myself be? Where would I start? I'm not looking to spend much, no more than 165.

If wanna spend less than $200, i would say either save that money up and buy some headlights down the road, or see if you can find a used set of retros that you can get for cheap, people sell them all the time here

I have these exact ones on my truck....
If you like to see well at night these are not a good setup lol. They have been on the truck for about two years. All the halos and bulbs still work fine but the output is not quality. You can get different/brighter bulbs through that vendor though. I'm probably going to go back to stock style headlights eventually or diy my own projector set-up. The ones that Logan makes are sick but I just don't want to drop that kind of money on headlights.

Search these on YouTube and there is install videos for your questions of install.

Spyder projector headlights are known for having poor output and seals that fail causing the lights to get condensation on the inside of the lens. I would pass.

What is your goal? Increased output, looks, replacing worn out OEM units?

To be perfectly honest with you, the look. I saw the same exact pair on a taco at Home Depot and I fell in love with them. The stock lights are also getting a little yellowed and decrepit looking. I don't know if I'm ready to drop 400-500 dollars on headlights. Is it possible to just buy the headlight assembly shell and put in your own lights?

How would you go about DIY'ing it? I just want to match the look of the eBay ones.

There is nothing wrong with wanting the look, and it is good to be honest with yourself about what you want to get out of the setup. You could always go with those lights and try running some brighter bulbs to compensate for the performance loss, and then run an extra bead of silicon around the seals as many do, but it will still likely be a cosmetic 'upgrade' and a functional downgrade.
