I had just gotten out of the Army and a friend got out after me. He joined a financial group and called me. He asked me for help, to just give him some names and numbers and that was it. He said it would help him get hired and make progress, and he wouldn't even have to call them really. I was dumb and wanted to help someone that helped me so I did it and I regret it. He called everyone relentlessly. My family and friends were pissed with me, for good reason. I eventually had to call him and tell him to stop calling these people, including myself, because it had ruined our friendship. Haven't heard from him since. No one has.

I had a falling out with a friend a little over a year ago. Basiclly we grew apart and stopped hanging out. Then he started a rumor to my brother that my wife was cheating on me. When she confronted him he told my wife she should leave me because I am not a nice guy.
Then a month later I get this call from a financial planner that said he got my ph# from that xfriend. I told him VERY clearly I was not interested and to not call me again. He calls back a few weeks later and I asked him if he remembers what I told him the last time we talked. He admited I told him not to call back and I said now do it this time.
I would say confront your friend about giving out your personel info and ask him to run it by you in the future so your not caught off guard and to protect your ID.
