    Hi all,

I decided to start a tool box thread where you can share pictures and makes and models of your tool boxes, drawers etc. Please share your setup. Hopefully this thread will serve others.

I have a DCSB and because of short bed I am on the ledge on whether or not I should buy a tool box. My primary motivation is for a safe way to store my 3 day get-home-backpack. As it is right now, I have to take it out and in twice every single day.

oh my.. that was some work. Very impressed. Do you have a picture of the truck with the tailgate down of the whole bed with the box in the back? The first picture is a little too close. I wanted to see/estimate how much usable space you've got remaining without taking the box down.

    Went with this...

Pardon the poor quality pictures. I was looking for just a little more storage space but also didn't want to give up any space in the bed. This is working well for me. It's the only one I could find that spanned the whole distance and stayed below the wheel wells. My only complaint is that the top and sides are tapered, which was not illustrated on the spec sheet. To mount it, I drilled two holes through the bottom and placed the bed bolts through those holes with some spacers between the box and the bed. I did have to cut the washers off of the bed bolts.

Torque'd em back down to 60 ft lbs, if anyone needs the spec.

    Bought it from here...

Yup; been slowly rebuilding my '99 GMC. It's taken a backseat to the Taco for now.

Nice install. If you don't want to bolt it down you could do what I had in my tundra. Made a cable lock that went to the tie downs in the bed and then put a ratchet strap to keep it tight. Easy to take out when needed. The cable is under the strap. It never moved the 16 years it was back there.image.jpg

How do these mount / attach? do they use the tie down rail? or do you have to drill into the bed rail? thanks

About 4 inches, I also have a bedmat under the toolbox too but it's not in the pic.
    20160226_172717.jpg

I can slide 4x4s under the box in the bed.

I also used double sided tape between the box and top of the bed rail so it provides cushion and helps keep it planted even if the bolts loosen.

I make additional clearance under mine with 2x4s under the box on the bedrails. Then I can fit a 12 pack perfectly under the toolbox .

I got a 2016 tacoma and im totally new to mounting tool boxes to the cab. I was looking at the holes under the plastic rail cap, is that an option to mount the tool box with nuts and bolts or using one of those butterfly's that it expands and I can tighten? I was thinking all you have to do is drill the plastic.

I was hoping to get the kobalt mid size truck box (black) that is around 249.
