Hi All, I have a 2011 Tacoma TRD Sport and as you know, they didn't come with DRLs. I installed two LED DRLS on the front and have them wired in to an illuminated swich I installed in the dash. The black wire from the lights I have grounded to the truck and the red wire from the lights to the accessory pin on the switch. I have the switch itself grounded to the truck via the ground pin on the switch and the 12V pin on the switch I have wired to the ignition. So as long as the switch is in the on position, the lights will come on when I turn the truck on and go off when I turn the truck off. That's how I wanted it to work and if when driving I ever want to shut them off, I can just flip the switch. I have an inline fuse installed on the 12V connection as well even though they are LED and probably don't need it... just in case.

My question (after that long explanation) is... if for some reason, one or both of the DRLS go out, will the illuminated switch go out as well so I know there's a problem? I'm thinking it will, but just wanted to get input to be sure. I did do a test with the lights on, I disconnected the accessory wire and both the DRLs and illuminated switch went out. Just want to make sure it's the same if the lights fail because a rock hits them or water or something like that. Thanks for any input.

The illuminated switch should stay lit in the on position regardless of the end point state. The illuminated switch has its own ground and gets its power for the light from the 12v source. The accessory pin on the switch is the end point you are sending power to.

Thank you. Just want a good way to know from inside the truck if one or both of them fail to illuminate.

jad3d, thank you... you're absolutely right. The switch light should stay on (12V ignition), but lights shut off (accessory wire disconnected). I mentioned in my earlier post that when I ran the test, both switch light and LEDs went off... Not so. I thought the switch light was off, but it wasn't... the sun was setting and hitting the dashboard just right that it looked off. After your reply, I ran the test again and the light was on, so thank you. Fairly easy DIY, hardest part was routing the wires so they were completely concealed. All wires are insulated and in wire looms, all connections are soldered, crimped and connect in the under hood fuseblock with grounds under the dash and on body next to battery (winters can be harsh here in Upstate NY). Here's a couple of pics of the finished product.20160908_093934- Modified.jpg 20160908_094036.jpg 20160908_145320.jpg
