I have had 2 4wd FJs one manual 2009 and one auto 2012. We had a 2013 limited 4Runner 2wd we now have a 2016 4wd TRD Pro 4Runner. My 2016 4wd TRD OR MT rides better, has better acceleration, holds speed on grade and gets better fuel mileage than all of the above listed vehicles. With the exception of the fuel mileage on the 2012 auto transmission FJ witch consistently got 23ish mpg.

but do you have a 2016 4Runner? Because that is what I own in addition to my 2016 Tacoma. And I've test driven plenty of 2016 and a 2017 Tacoma.

    2018 Ford Ranger release date
If all goes as it should be, and Ranger will be put on conveyor, the release date of 2018 model year pickup truck will be held in the second part of 2017.

    Release date: late 2017

Enlighten me on any mechanical differences between a 2013 and 2016 4Runner...

Care to elaborate? If you have cruise set, itll adjust to hold speed. Or if you are talking about static throttle position, thats not a comparison. Listed MPG is worse on the 4runner, but the sheer quality and look on them IMHO is much higher. The 4.0 and 5at is smooth as glass compared to the 3.5 pseudo diesel. Sounds like the new benz bluetec which sound like worn out valves needing new shims.

Me thinks you need to drive a manual transmission Taco.

I did that for 8 years in Los Angeles and got tired of pumping a clutch in traffic. No thanks.

Cruise set at 70-75 in the Taco 6th gear (MT) uphill might fall off 1 mph if any. Will not exceed what I set it at more than 1 mph down hill.

Runners and FJs are all about the same with cruise set at same speeds. Start up hill fall off around 2-3 mph, down shift to 4th or some times 3rd, buzz past what I set the cruise at by 4-6 mph then settles down to the set cruise speed. The delay in engine braking annoys me as well.

IMHO manual transmission trucks just flat out perform the slush box equipped trucks. Seems the 3.5 likes the manual trans and lower ratio better. I know from personal experience my neighbors truck (2016 TRD OR DCSB auto) is a slug compared to mine. It also doesn't tow as well. He does get better mileage on the highway while unloaded but while towing and city driving I get better mileage. Yes he has had the trans fluid adjusted and the TSB done.

Meh! To each his own. You really should test drive one, they are a completely different animal.

As a manual you cant downshift, you put undue stress on your power and drivetrain by forcing the TPS to be 75 to 100% to maintain speed. (Which is damaging btw)

Why? I know how to drive a manual. I know how they function. An auto suits my needs better. If I want to drive a manual I'll hop in my 68' goat.

Don't think you can get that with the 6-pack.

When Ford announced they were going to bring the Ranger and Bronco production in Detroit back to life the 1st time they said 2018 Ford Ranger. So fall of 2017 is spot on. My 2016 Tacoma was built in SEP of 2015. All is well. :)

My 4Runner Trail Premium came in last night and I picked it up today. Had to move my trailer around to cut the grass so the hitch from my Tacoma is on. Here she is.
