Ok so here is the story, my pioneer APPRADIO4 HU just died. Software error. no0 warranty and no fix I've tried. So I need a new Head unit and came across this unit here. -->https://www.amazon.com/Pumpkin-Touc...d=1473486175&sr=8-4&keywords=10.1"+double+din
Ive searched to see if anyone has dared to try this in there 2nd gen Tacoma. And haven't seen anything. This unit looks awesome and I measured and it would fit perfect in our dash kits. If anyone has information please let me know before I buy this. I am pulling the trigger on this on the 25th this month unless someone knows something I don't know. any info is appreciated. Watch the video link to see this thing in action and yes I know this is a Chinese stereo but the idea is cool and modern.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihgomKArRuY

Yea I read that whole thread and was thinking of buying it but then I came across the 10" version and that it would be awesome to have a bigger screen with the same controls. The bigger screen will not block anything. The space is there to go bigger. So why not right. I would be a guinea pig as I have never seen it done. Although I have seen one tacoma with and Ipad and a custom made fiberglass Dashave kit but that is way beyond my capabilities and funds.

I was going to buy the joying 10.1 but ran into some issues with the house (stupid house) so I held off. Going to follow this thread and use you as the test of how it'll fit. Measurements show it should fit perfect to the usable area we have.

It's a cheaply designed unit with bad reviews. Having a bigger screen would be nice but is it removable? If not I'd avoid it just for the fact that someone looks into your car and sees a free tablet that is easy to take.

If you can hold off for a few weeks you probably should.

Apparently they are releasing new ones with better processor in the beginning of october. I'll probably return the one I just bought as it's a little too slow for me.

So as an update I went with a pioneer avh-4800bs instead. just couldn't get passed the bad reviews the joying unit has. I went with a metra blck dash kit and had to trim some plastic to fit right. all in all I am very happy with this pioneer HU and I can still mirror my phone which is cool. will post some pics tomorrow.

It's strange that the 10.1" has worse reviews than the ones with the smaller screens - you'd figure the functionality would be similar just with a different display... but I guess a bigger display = higher resolution, so if the hardware isn't up to the task, I bet it would be tough to deal with (I can speak from experience - I tried buying one of those cheap Android tablets back in the day).

Good to know - I won't be ready to buy a new HU until after we close on the new house and get moved in - so probably not until around Thanksgiving time...

Does the Pioneer work okay with your steering wheel controls?

I installed the brake bypass and the axxess because I have the factory jbl system. The steering wheel controls are not working because I haven't bought the kit for it yet but it does support our tacoma steering wheel controls. Overall I'm 400 dollars in this all together that's the cost of the joking I was originally planning on gettingoing. I'm happy but would still like to see so.eine put that big ol 10.1" in the dash

Nice - that install looks really clean - and that Metra kit appears to fit very nicely. I'm still undecided on which kit to try, as reviews are mixed between the Metra and Scosche. The Metra doesn't have that lip on the bottom, but the Scosche does offer their kit in matching silver, so it's a toss up for me. It also seems like some HUs fit better with one kit than the other. I guess the good news is that they're only around $20, so if one doesn't fit that well, you can always try the other. Don't get me wrong, I'm not independently wealthy - wasting $20 would piss me off, but you can buy both kits online for less than the price of one at your local B&M. I think for reliability, and support purposes, I'm going to stick to a major-brand radio (Pioneer, Kenwood, etc.) for the time-being and let someone else be the guinea pig on the Android units. :spy:

How does this HU interface with the jbl amp? Did you need a special harness? I thought the amp didn't play well with aftermarket HUs

Yea somebody needs to put that Android unit in there for sure I'll keep a look out for whoever does :spy: and yes you need a special harness to use your factory amp and sound is great better than before.

I installed a joying android HU in my tacoma but it was a 7". So far it's worked well and I haven't had any issues with it.

Old thread, but just in case anyone is curious about this still I just ordered the 10.1 inch, android 7.1, octacore with 2gb ram and 32gb rom. Should be here in the next few days. I will be installing it in my 02 4 door. I'll make a new post about it and review the new model.
