Threaten to report them to your state's board of insurance - or whichever body of oversight your state has. I'm currently dealing with a very crappy insurance from an auto accident that occurred 4 months ago.

When i first called to report the claim they asked me the usual questions but after a week I never heard from them so I checked up again and it turned out they never took my info down or opened a claim. After that they kept sending me correspondence with the wrong name even after calling them to correct it. They made me drive out to their adjuster 30minutes from my house. They never called me back, in fact I had to keep calling them to check on the status. They're absolutely horrible to work with.

I would find someone with a beater and a steel bumper, pay them 100 bucks and have them go ahead and finish that bastard off. Especially if insurance hasn't seen it.

Make sure you file a claim for "diminished value". If they fix it with that much damage it is going to bring in thousands less when you go to sell it.

The damage to the cab is what's really going to jack the price. Basically it's going to need a full repaint because you can't blend all that in. Plus I see the leaf is broken. Perhaps part of the frame is bent. I'd be under there with a sledge hammer lol :smash:.

Insurance varies state to state. So some of the things people suggested here may or may not apply. As for dealing with your "local agent" your probably better just talking to someone at the corporate office. Local agents are like car sales people. They only care about the money they make off selling you insurance and when you come back with an issue thy are usually less than thrilled to help you out. It's not their vehicle so they don't care.

Most states your allowed to take to the shop of your choice. However don't be afraid to get quotes from 2-3 shops. Submit the highest and then take to the shop of your choice. Also when your getting estimates from the shop of your choice tell them you want OEM parts. I'm pretty sure they will pretty much have to use OEM anyway. The 3rd gen is still new and I doubt there is a lot of other companies making cheaper replacement parts for them yet. Also I don't see there being a bunch of available used parts for these. Only way I see that happening is if they needed to replace something that Toyota has on a long back order and no one else makes. If they could find a used part from another wrecked truck that was ok then they would try to use that to keep the process shorter and cost down in the rental

    Best of luck!

Yep, this. No one does this. The company will fight you on it. You may have to have an attorney write a letter even. That usually gets their attention.

Have you filed a claim with your insurance? I suspect you have not because State Farm will definitely either send someone to estimate or have you go to an office. They don't just take a phone description on something like this. They may present you with options on the spot, repair it, total it, go after the other guy, etc. But you're under no obligation to do anything right away.

I'm personal friends with my State Farm agent so he can help with advice but professionally there's nothing your insurance company will do until you file a claim and pay the deductible. In this case I would probably front the deductible and have your insurance deal with it. And in my experience State Farm is really good at representing you when it's not your fault.

If it was a small accident or being drunk wasn't part of the equation I might not involve my insurance to avoid a claim. I'm not above just working a cash deal for fender benders if the other guy seems cool. But this is just too much risk not to have someone working on your behalf.

    Get a lawyer.

Pretty sure you are not required to take it to the shop that your insurance company wants you to take it to. This may vary from state to state though.

Dang... That sucks, OP! I hope for your sake that they total it out. Looks pretty gnarly, but I guess the true deciding factor will be if the frame is actually bent. Best wishes, and I'm glad you're okay.

Smitty... that's bad Karma bro... you could hert yerself doing shit like that. Then the Karma kicks in. Careful what you wish for.

For parts, when going to the repair shop do an interview ... TELL the people at the shop you want genuine new OEM parts and give me an estimate.

The part of the truck that will cause it to be totaled is the cab frame... that's some special steel that can not be fixed due to the hardened steel. Well not easily fixed. It's too hard to straighten and too much $$ to replace. Totaled send the truck to the middle east to be used as a gun carrier by the taliban.
