My 2013 v6 has pinged since new under load. Recently Ive heard it more, could be because of the hotter temps. Gonna try different octane. All my maintenace is up to date.

Holy balls! I thought CA was bad WOW.

If it hasn't been mentioned OP, disconnecting your battery for 10+ minutes to 'reset' the computer can help speed up the process when changing octane levels. I'm not sure how long it takes just straight driving.

I'd also use an actual fuel treatment product like Chevron concentrate plus, Redline SI-1, BG 44K, etc. Seafoam is a hyped product and it has it's uses but cleaning fuel systems is not one of them in my opinion and the same can be said for ChemTool B12.

Outboard guys favor Seafoam for keeping an engine clean and carbon free. Maybe they do not know anything.

We run 93 on all of our outboards and never have issues. Maybe it's a Honda thing. The Coast Guard would never let Seafoam on a base, not that they're experts or anything. We also don't use PEA additives so there's that.

PEA is the preferred cleaning agent inside engines. http://papers.sae.org/831709/ This was published by Chevron (in 1983!) stating the effects. It's a continually engineered product even today.

There's also this article from Bloomberg refuting it. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...additive-chevron-wont-say-how-effective-it-is

There are plenty of shade tree mechanic comparisons on both so take them for what they are.

    Anyway, thread jack over.

I run 93 in my Mercury only because I have milled heads. With a non modded outboard it is not needed.

All of information that I have is that you can't adjust the valves on the 2.7 (2TR-FE), which is the engine that my truck has in it

I think it's because ours are run hard and put up wet every single day. Easier to just say, "Put 93 in it" as a general statement than to say 87 is fine and start frying shit because of how they are used (and abused).

I've heard a slight pinging on 87 when under 2000rpm, under load, but not at higher rpm. Tried to save some money the other day getting real cheap 87 gas, big mistake, lots of pinging with it. Got down to 1/4 tank and filled with good 89 gas, no pinging at all. Waiting to burn that up, and try good 87 again to test. Talked to serv rep about the TSB, he said a friend of his had it done, and the pinging came back in a few months. He told me to run higher octane every 3rd or 4th tank. Might just stay with 89 after all this testing.

Like I said earlier, ive been experiencing lots of pinging. Ive always just used 87. Waited until the tank was real close to empty and filled with 93 octane. All pinging has dissapeared. Also checking my mileage at the next fill to see if its been affected. Currently on a road trip so it will be soon.
