I bought my Tacoma used a couple of years ago, and after a few months, I had some starting issues. While poking around inside the vehicle, I discovered a strange "black box" device dangling by my feet that had a bunch of wires hanging from it, with a loose connector. I reseated the connector, and my starting problems went away. I realized that it was an aftermarket auto alarm. It's an AS-7938, made by American Accessories. I stuffed it into the lower side panel and forgot about it. Now I'm having starting problems again, and I suspect the abandoned alarm is acting up again. I want that thing out of my vehicle, but I need to remove it methodically so I don't REALLY mess things up. I have not been able to find a schematic/wiring diagram for this alarm, which would help me to completely remove it and put my truck wiring back in its original condition. Apparently, the alarm is no longer available, hence my problem finding out anything about this unit. I know next to nothing about how car alarms are wired up, but have should have sufficient electrical troubleshooting and testing abilities. Is there anyone who can help me out with this? I still can't start my truck normally with the key. I have to use a remote starting switch that I rigged up that bypasses the starting relay contacts. Its beginning to get old doing that.

Nevermind. Problem solved. I watched a couple of generic youtube videos on removing car alarms, and got some good tips, and some confidence that I can get it done without making it worse. To make a long story short, I was able to remove all the alarm wiring and electronics from the truck, and reconnected the start wire (ST1) from the ignition switch back to its original configuration (which was cut and routed to a relay inside the alarm box) using a couple of butt splices. Turns out the reason it stopped starting all of a sudden was the male spade connector lug for ST1 on the alarm box became "desoldered/disconnected" from the PC board. Looked like crappy quality control on soldering to me. Damn I'm glad I got that crap out of my truck. Its been bugging me for two years and I was kinda afraid to tackle it. It was actually no big deal to do afterall.
