hey guys your help would be much appreciated. ill make it quick. i Have 1997 Toyota Tacoma 3.4 v6 4wd. Went on a road trip and my girlfriend at the time accidentally kicked the ac amplifier housing right under the glove compartment. broke the housing for it but ac amplifier seemed ok. at some point after road trip my ac just all of a sudden stopped blowing cold air and my light for ac buttion in vehicle turned off. Didnt connect the dots at the time and so i assumed it was low on freon. lol. so i went to add more freon from a FREON CAN WITH gauge. Went to add Freon in this manner.. turned on vehicle, set AC to max cold, and then opened lowside port and connected can with hose to pump. I was unable to add freon. Pressure read too high on gauge and system was not allowing freon in can to enter ac line. Keep in mind during this recharge attempt ac clutch on compressor was sticking(spinning very slowly) and light on ac button was still off.lol. At the time i didnt know any better and i continued to try to pump freon in the lowside basically causing all the freon in the ac line to empty out. In conclusion i believe the ac system is now very low on freon or has none at all. After doing some real thinking and looking around i saw that the ac amplifier may have been damaged from that kick and i also noticed that the ac fuse was blown. bought all parts from Toyota (fuses, Ac Relay, Ac Amplifier) i went ahead and put all new parts in and when i go to turn on truck and then turn on ac, the ac light on the button stays on for a couple seconds and i can hear RPM's change but then ac light just turns off and i notice that the ac fuse gets blown. The fuse keeps blowing and i went through about 4 to 5 fuses already. Obviously its electrical but can someone provide me some insight on this. Is the ac clutch coil not getting enough current and therefore is spinning very slowly. Short somewhere? Pressure switches? I highly doubt the ac clutch or ac compressor is broken since this happened so coincidentally after ac amplifier was kicked, maybe the ac amplifier being kicked caused other problems? lol. but i know the heart of the issue was that ac amplifier being kicked.

The evaporator and compressor clutch are electricaly unrelated.Unplug your a/c compressor cluch.the connector should be a few inches from the clutch itself.install a new fuse, and turn it on.if the fuse blows, look for chaffed wires in the harness.if the fuse doesnt blow, grab the front of the compressor and see if it spins with moderate resistance.if its difficult to turn or wont spin at all the compressor is locked up.if not youre looking at a clutch.clutches can be changed without discharging the system but its usualy easier and not much more in cost to just replace compressor assembly

sorry to ask where does the evaporator come into play with all this?

The part youre calling an amplifier is the evaporator housing in the cab i believe.
