17" TRD Pro rims and BFG AT TKO2s...

I have 36 in mine. I tried 40 but was too hard for all the bad roads we have around here.

With just the 265/70-17 K02s (run at 28psi offroad) and rock sliders this summer I did with my buddies:

I was blown away how capable the truck was stock. Rear locker came in real handy. Only trail that I felt that I wish I had better clearance and articulation was Radical Hill. You should have no problem doing whatever light off-roading you and your wife plan on doing! These tires took a beating and will do awesome for everything you're looking to do. I replaced the OEM skid plates after all the trails this summer with the new beefy TRD Pro skids (1/4" Aluminum).

 

@BertMacklin . Thank you for great info . Beautiful pics! My wife went to Yankee boy basin in 2000 with her family . Her grandparents live in Montrose. She remembers how beautiful it is and wants to go back.

I guess I'll have to look into removing stock running boards for rock sliders. Wasn't aware there was a distinction.

 

TRD Pro Rims 265 70 17 BFG KO2

 

How many bolts did you have left over after replacing the skid plate??

 

My bro works at costco tire, he's the one that I bought mine from (275/70R17) he said with nitrogen it's good to run them at 35, but can go all the way to 80 which is nuts to me. He said off road wold be good at 28-30 and regular street driving 34-36.

 

The stock OEM skid plate uses 6 12mm bolts. The TRD Pro skid plate connects to the frame using 4 17mm and 2 12mm bolts. So you're left with 4 extra after reusing 2 12mm.

 

Where did you get your new skid plate?

 

Question for those who have KO2 LT265/70R17 and the TRD Rims installed. What kind of gas mileage are people getting with them on? How does it compare to the stock wheels that came on the truck? I had them put on my truck right when I bought it so I don't have a reference. Thanks

I got the C rated version. Maybe 1 mpg at most. Still averaging 21-24 on highway.

 

I put the same wheels and tires on Friday. Also white trd off road

 

Basically same as original TRD Pro reveal. Covers all the same parts the OEM does but in one big chunk of aluminum. Definitely covers oil pan and front diff.

 

There can be some issues to be aware of when matching tires to the popular 4-Runner TRD Pro wheels (PTR20-35110). These wheels are 17 by 7 inches with an 11 mm offset. The Tacoma Sport wheels are 17 by 7.5 inches with a 10 mm offset. Stock Sport tires are 17x265x65 and the KO-2 tires, as well as all other tires of this size, require a minimum 7.5 inch rim width (Tire Rack). The 4-Runner stock tire size is 17x265x70 and these only require a 7 inch rim. All tires of a larger width (275 and up) require a minimum 7.5 inch rim no matter what the aspect ratio.

 

OK so I am thinking about going to the blk TRD 17's with BFG 265's. some say rub, some say no rub... But the dealership has a buy 3 get 1 for a buck and discount tire/amercas tire will price match and will even warranty your tire (even from off road damage) in the event of a blow out or anything that cannot be repaired. Has any used this? had any experience? I think it will run 660 for 4 tires before install and around 800ish installed and a full warranty on the tires. I also got a quote on the rims from the dealership for 747... looks like thats a pretty solid deal. thoughts? also I think im gonna go with 6 ply cause I drive alot and only go camping and such.. nothing crazy off road

 

This is what I know from experience. Take it FWIW.

- It really depends on what the caster is setup on your truck from the factory. The factory min/max specs is somewhere between 0 ~ -3.0 degrees. Remember, closer to zero and your wheel moves closer to the rear cab mount, and closer to 3, and the wheel moves forward (closer to the front wheel)

I have the TRD 4R wheels with K02 265/70/17 with stock mud flaps. I have ZERO rub, nothing, going up driveways at speed, backing up, bumpy u-turns, nothing..

My caster is set at 2.8 L/R. Now if your truck left the factory with 0 ~ 1 degrees of caster, I can see you may have a rubbing problem.

This is why some trucks rub and some don't, even with the same wheels/tire combo.

 

I think I am going to take my chances with the rub... I think you could get spacers in the event of a rub or change out my oem mud flaps. I dont plan of lifting it anytime this year.

Have most of you guys sold your stock rim and tires or do you keep them?

 

My OEM mudflaps rubbed when full lock and articulated. It was rare when it did, but I figured it was going to do it even more offroading. I took them off. No issues after. No lift or spacers here.

Sold mine on Craigslist. Didn't try to recoop my costs really. It was hard enough to find a local buyer. Sold the wheels and tires for $600.
