Several weeks ago I started building my bed storage/platform. I would have loved to have purchased the Truck Vault one, but $2,800 was not something I wanted to spend so I decided to build my own. Used 3/4" plywood for everything, and the drawer rollers are trunk casters. Turned out good in my opinion what do you think?

    These drawers are AWESOME.

any way of knowing what load capacity is on top of your drawers? I'm hoping to build some like these and I'd like to continue to use the truck bed to haul tools, cabinets, etc.

    Thanks in advance!

Based on load rating for 3/4" plywood and adding the laminate you are looking at a load rating in a 3" square of 1,000lbs easy. My drawers are 14" wide so that is the span of the plywood. Basically you don't have anything to worry about with load if that is your concern with what you listed.
    Thanks for the compliment

Nice setup. So is the top deck stationary or does it slide out?

I assume the turnbuckles prevent the whole framework from leaving the truck bed. Are there just the two rear turnbuckles or do you have other means of keeping the unit from shifting?

I'll try and post pictures of my version, much cruder than yours, when and if my truck get back from the dealer for repair.

Again, your workmanship is first class.

The top is stationary. Yes the turnbuckles are precautionary so if I put something heavy on top that hangs out it won't tip or slide out if the tailgate is down. Their are (2) turnbuckles at the front of the truck where I added the bed d-rings and the (2) at the rear that are shown.

    Nice work!

More questions: did you build the drawers too? What kind of construction? Where did you get the casters? More details, More Details

Looks exactly like what I want to do.

I built the whole thing including the drawers. It is all out of 3/4" birch plywood. Any surface not bed lined is laminated with Formica which also strengthens the wood. The casters are trunk casters which you can get from Van Dyke restorers pretty cheap. Damn near everything else I sourced from Amazon like the marine carpet, tie down track, plastic trim on doors, spring handles, marine latch. Wood and misc hardware was from lowes. All in materials and everything was about $700. As for making it I have a full woodworking shop in my garage. What other details do you want?

Great design. I'm planning on doing something very similar. Curious what caused the cost to be $700? They type of plywood, the laminate, marine carpet, etc??
