They're just as wide too. "265" in 265/75/16 is a measure of the width in millimeters.

From the specs sheet it says the 265/75 is slightly thinner at the tread width. 8.5" compared to 8.7" for the 265/70. Prolly not gonna help me though im guessing. :annoyed:

That may be a difference in how it's manufactured, but "all" 265s are supposed to be the same width. That's probably just due to tolerance differences in the moldings and the fact that they will be a slightly different shape when inflated.

    Section Width

Following the letter(s) that identify the type of vehicle and/or type of service for which the tire was designed, the three-digit numeric portion identifies the tire's "Section Width" (cross section) in millimeters.

    P225/50R16 91S

The 225 indicates this tire is 225 millimeters across from the widest point of its outer sidewall to the widest point of its inner sidewall when mounted and measured on a specified width wheel. This measurement is also referred to as the tire's section width. Because many people think of measurements in inches, the 225mm can be converted to inches by dividing the section width in millimeters by 25.4 (the number of millimeters per inch).

    225mm / 25.4 = 8.86"

First tank on the E rated KO2's at 17.3 mpg with 150 miles of forest roads with intermittent 4wd use and 175ish miles of winding mountain highway. I am pleased as my stock tires got about the same under similar conditions. For the record I am not correcting for the 3.5% difference in size. I'm currently running 35 psi all around.

    Close.

+15 mm offset on a 7" wide wheel. It ends up being 4 9/16" of BS

tire specs 265 is width in millimeters, 75 is the percentage of the width (265) will be 1 sidewall height, and of course 16 is the rim size....if you do not have a tire calculator handy can do the math on a phone, its easy.

    265
    x 75
x2 (2 times the side wall height is what this part of the equation is figuring out )
= 39,750 take this number and divide by 2540 (its converting the number to inches 25.4 millimeters in an inch)
= 15.64 inches, then take this and add rim size in this case 16
    265/75/16 = 31.65 inches

    265/70/16 = 30.60 inches

Should I go with the 265/70/16 or the 265/75/16?

There is about $160 difference (the smaller set is more expensive).

tirerack is the cheapest I can find right now, but adding in shipping and install its going to be about $230-240 a tire. Which is what Mr Tire said they would charge with install included.

265/70/17 BFG KO2 T/A (C Rating) on stock rims. The tires have been great so far, but I've only had them for about a month. Nothing but good things to say so far. Super quite on the Hwy too.

oh yeah. so I was worried about gas mileage and the stiff ride of E rated tires... So I picked these up in 265/75R16 and replaced Cooper A/T3 C rated of the same size. Mileage believe it or not is the same as the coopers, I got ~18 mpg all highway (70-75 mph) on a road trip. yesterday. They actually ride way better than I expected. if anything they are cushier than the coopers. The only thing I dont like and will just get used to is how heavy they are. yeah... things need to be a little more thought out in terms of merging and what not.
