So, I have a 2013 Tacoma Quad Cab 4x4 with just under 36,000 miles. I bought it two days ago. The rear view mirror seems to be difficult to adjust. Yesterday, it came unstuck from the windshield and was dangling by the wire. Electronics seem to be working fine.

My question is this: should I go through the hassle of taking it to a dealer to have it reattached under warranty, or just go to the parts store and get a kit, and do it myself?

    Is this a common problem?

Would have the dealer fix it under warranty. That way it is on your repar record. Make sure they document it.

I would check to make sure it's the original windshield ( check for vin number on the glass) then let the dealer fix it under warranty.

What does the windshield being original have anything to do with it?

Sounds like a good way to confuse the issue and sound like a total moron at your service counter.

Call the dealer, tell them the mirror fell off while being adjusted, they will likely tell you to bring it back for repair.

    Don't listen to the Internet.

I don't know where exactly to look for the VIN, but I don't see it. Also, the glass has some minor distortion; not enough to be a nuciance. I suspect the windshield has been replaced with an aftermarket brand. It does have PGW brand on it.

Yeah if you don't see a vin number on the window than its been replaced

That's what I'm thinking. I bought it from a Honda dealer 100 miles from home, so I'm not driving that far for just that.

I don't think I should hold the manufacturer responsible either, since it's an aftermarket part.

Ten bucks and ten minutes should fix her right up.

I have a original windshield and it doesn't have the vin on it. That's an option that you paid for or got in a package.

I've glued it back on. My main concern was that the electronics were OK, and they are. When it first came loose, it was dangling by the wiring harness. All is well.

Just for information: All Tacoma's do not have the VIN Etched in the glass. Mine doesn't and has all factory glass. The VIN Etching is a dealer or distributor option.

The company Portland Glass probably replaced that windshield.
