Just bought 17 DCSB OR 4x4 in quicksand.
tonneau, tow pkg, tip, flaps and other stuff
    Paid 35,150
    MSRP 37428
Thought it was a decent deal for my area. Not as great as some of the other members here obviously
First toyota vehicle ever(I'm a former Silverado guy)

I also Bought an extended warranty w/ wheel/paint protect -> I thought at the time maybe this was a good idea considering some of the potential problems these trucks have been having. But now I am regretting the ext warranty purchase and is likely a waste of 1800$. What do you guys think? I believe i can get a refund within 30 days.

Hi guys, a dealer is offering $38600 ($40100 label price) for the following configuration:

*2017 tacoma TRD OR 4x4 Super white
    *crew cab
    *premium tech with JBL package
    *V6 towing pkg
    *all weather floor liner
    *Bed Mat
    *D - Rings
    *Exhaust Tip
    *Mudguards
    *Spare Tire Lock
    *Wheel Locks (Alloy)

Is it a good deal? Is there more space to talk it down a little bit more?

    Any suggestion would be appreciated!

according to NADA.com invoice is about 36,800, so maybe they should switch their 38,600 to your 36,800

If you're talking about $38600 plus *only* state charged tax/tag/title fees, it's okay in general but I also don't know how different your market is from others.

Here in Atlanta I have on order a similar 2017 TRD OR with additional options at a $42,377 MSRP and I'm paying $39,700 plus tax and $21 title fee.

I'm sending emails back and forth trying to negotiate with the sales. What advice would you make for this process? This is going to be my first own car purchase so I'm very new to auto negotiations...

find another dealer and start working them, I also was get better quotes from another dealer and go back to the one I plan to use and let them try to match. and dont be afraid to walk away, they will contact you. Your sale is money to them, we all want money.

    That's great advice. Thank you.

In the latest response I got from this dealer, he is saying that the lowest price he can offer is $38300. He is also saying the invoice price is around $37600.

If I go with $38300, then with new grad discount, I should be able to get 37500 in the end (before tax, fees, and stuff)

    Any thoughts?

Again, thank you so much for your suggestions.

Here's what I always do when buying a new car:
By Friday evening I had two emailed offers at $3000 below MSRP. I went to my local dealer whom I've used for service on other Toyotas and whom I like. They also include a free Fidelity lifetime powertrain warranty which does have some value to me since we keep our Toyotas a very long time.

Saturday afternoon I went to my local dealer (I'd already gotten Costco pricing from them) and opened the discussion stating that I like them and wanted to buy from them, but had a quote in hand for $xyz out-the-door. (*)

It didn't take very long to get close enough to that quote to not be worth my time and effort to go to the other dealer (they're a ways away).

Also be sure to know what competitive finance rates you have available. In this case my preferred dealer has a direct relationship with my credit union, allowing me to get a great rate with no surprises while they still get their cut.

(*) ALWAYS negotiate on DRIVE-OUT pricing. That shakes out all the fees and other crap. If you've agreed to a bottom line drive-out there's less chance for them to hide or surprise you with anything.

    Thank you for the inputs!

Does trade-in usually bring the price down? Or is it a totally different discussion? I probably will trade in my current car. Just don't know if I should do it at the same dealer, or to some other players like CarMax.

Like I said, I'm a newbie to this matter, any suggestion would help!

Ideally keep the trade out of the pricing discussion, as it clouds matters and it give the dealer a way to change the deal later on when the new truck comes in. Your goal is to minimize the variables they can control. "Oh, we didn't see this issue when we looked at it before and now can only give you $1000 less" would not surprise me at all.

When communicating with dealers, I stated that I may trade my existing truck; we'd talk about it when my ordered truck came in and depending on their offer at the time I'd either trade it or sell it to carmax or sell it on my own. I also noted that since it was an old high mileage 4runner, its value did not affect my ability or intent to purchase.

When figuring numbers and their trade offer, see if your state charges taxes based on full value of the new truck or just the difference between the trade-in value and the new one. If they "deduct" the trade, then you could actually come out ahead taking slightly less in trade than a carmax offer.

for now don't discuss the trade. for best results get an sale price first. Then again, take the trade to a few places and talk trade or buying from you. Then you can finalize your purchase. Oh and practice saying no I don't want that. The dealerships make a ton of money when finalizing the paperwork by convincing you you need all this extra crap.

I did this just this past weekend. I had an offer from one dealer. I liked the sales guy, but I didn't like his first offer, but hadn't negotiated at all yet. So I drove to another dealer and got their best offer. The sales team there was crap...kept pushing other trucks or allocations I didn't want on me, texting while I am asking him questions, said an order would be 4-6 months, didn't know what TMF (Toyota Marketing Fee) was on the invoice, and just overall a bad experience. Finally got them to give me their best offer on the exact build I wanted, and it was still more than the original quote. Showed him the first dealer's price, and he came back out and beat it by a few hundred, but I thought I could do better and didn't like the vibe I got.

Said no thanks and walked out, but not after they sales manager came out one more time tried to get my $500 deposit.

Called the first dealer, said I'm ready to buy, can you beat this price and he did by about $500 so I pulled the trigger on the order...definitely play the dealers...and try to find the straight shooters...typically, I think they are the internet sales guys that deal in volume...they can afford to give closer to invoice since they are turning over a lot of cars. From reading these posts and it sounds like there are plenty of them out there you just gotta find em.

    Right on and good luck.

Yes, aim for the Internet guys not the floor sales staff.

I was pleasantly surprised with my recent experience. The internet/costco sales guy went and got the sales manager, who then sat down with me one-on-one and we negotiated face to face. None of this carry my offer over to the High Castle and scurry back with the counter offer repetitious time-wasting BS.

Thank you so much guys, I think I did something wrong lol. I'll start using these "tactics" when negotiating.

Oh one more thing... when it's time to take delivery of your new truck and you have them come up with an offer on your trade, DON'T show them your carmax purchase offer before they've made their offer to you first. I shouldn't have to explain why. :)

LOL, we all gotta learn somewhere/sometime. I wish I'd known this stuff 25 years ago.

Of course, this all works best if you're not in a time crunch and can wait for an ordered vehicle to come in. It also works best when your existing vehicle is paid off and you have a good credit rating. Everything you can do to minimize their leverage over you helps to your advantage.

This is the first time I have ever purchased a new car. It was actually kind of fun to keep rejecting their crap offers on other trucks, get upset when they didn't get me offer on what I asked for, finally get an offer, get them to lower it, and then walk out with them begging.

2017 TRD OR 4x4 DCSB Auto
    Premium and Tech with JBL
    Towing
    Carpet mats and D Rings
    $36,920 +TTL

Not sure what invoice is exactly since prices aren't on the master list yet but I estimate it to be $36,565 for this build, so I am happy with the deal.
