Tacoma lean

    So I took measurements of my front suspension and there is about an inch difference between my right and left. I have heard of the Tacoma lean, but before I adjust my coilovers to level them out I wanted to make sure that it isn't like that for a reason. I honestly didn't think there would be a lean to it after I put in my toytec coilovers. The only reason I noticed in the first place is because I put 285/75/R16s on and my driver side rubs in reverse pretty bad.

    I believe the extra weight of the battery and engine configuration is what causes the lean. That being the case, the lean wouldn't go away by simply replacing the coils. They make a 1/4" spacer, which you would need to add to the driver side to eliminate the lean.

    Before you adjust your CO look at your drivers side front core wall body mount bushing. Measure and compare it to the passenger side bushing, it is very common that the drivers side bushing is worn out /crushed by 1/4" or more. If so, replace it first with Energy Suspension poly bushings and then remeasure. From there you have a couple of choices to level it out :

    1. Purchase the 1/4" spacer from Toytech which will yield 1/2" of lift and then dial it in from there.

    2. Crank your CO alone to dial it in.

    front core wall body mount bushing. That's a mouthful, i'm going to have to look up where that is (I'm relatively new to the DIY mechanic game). I'm assuming a bushing is a relatively inexpensive part?

    Your cab is mounted to the frame by 6 points and there are body mount bushings at those points :

    2 - at the back corners of the cab visible on the outside of the frame rails.

    2 - at at the back of your front wheel wells, these are the mounts that folks chop for tire clearance.

    2 - at the radiator core wall, these can be seen up under the front wheel wells. These are small and very weak and are very well known to collapse which makes the taco lean much worse because the body itself can dip by 1/4" or more at that front corner.

    They are inexpensive and easy to replace in your driveway.
