My 15' TRD sport, tow pkg blah blah. I started towing a small boat, 15 foot CC, weight eh, under 2k pounds boat motor trailer and dog/ wife will ride in truck cab. Just saying.

    Two big issues!

A: I have done nothing but towing in 4 not D since y'all have said NEVER ever use OD. Um, this is a small tow amount but shit I use 4 only. Did a 155 mile crossing of the state (Floriduh) East to West and back. Honestly I felt like I could have easily thrown it in D and never "bogged" the tranny but...... I follow directions and therefore haven't used D.
Anyone have high mileage real life issues after succoming to the desire to drop eh, guessing what 500 RPM in D on flat ass roads? NO 155 each way is not high mileage.... I get that.

2: I liked the home alone movie... so I didn't do B...... I still am so unsure WTF the damn shut off buttom on my sport 2wd allegedly does, since again, I am towing a small boat and the HOA will call the HOA cops on me if my boat is in the "front yard" therefore I must back it in the "back yard" behind our privacy fence. ALWAYS getting stuck in the sugar sand which is of course under the sad ass floritam grass in all common areas of Floriduh ..... so when my damn button is pressed and the traction control is "off" (orange displayed emblem) and my "auto LSD" light is same would that be:

C: better to back in my yard with button depressed? (yes I technically own the shit grass> I destroy or

4: Skip shutting the damn whatever off/ or is it on? and keep getting pissed because it does really nothing?

    Not polling nor trolling.... thanks!

wow... after reading that I'm more confused than when I started. Anyway, i tow a 15' boat (2 outboards on back. minnkota up front, and loaded with supplies) and stay in D. I only drop it down to 4 on uphill grades when the engine searches for a lower gear. Your not towing that much weight where you have to be in 4 going down the highway... i think that more applies to towing a heavy trailer.

If you can hold 5th gear lockup while towing you are fine. But if you find it constantly popping out of 5th gear lockup then put it in 4th.

Your other statements i can not understand.... must be a florida thing.

    A) Get an ultragauge to monitor transmission temp.

    2) Move out of HOA.

C and 4 become non issues if you do #2 above.

Side note, when making numbered lists it's best to stick with either letters or numbers, unless the letters are sub-items under the numbers.

I agree with above statements.. I always go to D unless it's searching then go to 4..Why don't you get the wheel adaption for the front and you just pull the trailer out to the front yardScreenshot_2016-09-12-16-40-07.jpg

The main reason you don't want to use OD is so the tranny doesn't get hot. Get a scan gauge or even the torque app and a Bluetooth OBD2 reader and you'll be fine. The rest you're on your own (4wd here)

I'd hit the LSD off button before backing into the yard, just to limit damage to the grass.

I bet your truck could tow the trailer a lot easier than your lawn mower... just saying.

    Funny, I understand it all.

The answer is, you can use 5th. You are stupid flat there.

The other answer is you need 4x4.

The auto LSD is a joke. If you spin, power is cut and you stop. If you turn off LSD, you spin and sink the tires. You are stopped again. Screwed both ways without 4x4.

I tow a 16' deep V Sylvan with a 50hp, I leave it in OD unless it starts shifting in and out .... which is not often unless on a long hard uphill pull. Same with a 5x10 trailer loaded with firewood.

And yes, auto LSD in my sport sucks too.
