It's my understanding that no dealer will manually check it for free unless corporate orders them too they usually charge around 105.00

Got my TSB done a few days ago, dealer had no problems doing it after i handed them the TSB form, and it was a night and day difference i love it now! As for the trans fluid i checked it myself and it was full, not to hard to check just a little patience.

Manhattan beach toyota - they now know how to do it and are chill about it.. gotta leave your truck all day to cool down. they messed up the first time and then I brought it back and they gave me a free break in (500 mile) oil change... they said I dont need one on this truck but if they paid for it... why not

These dealers better learn the ART of customer service and satisfaction because I think the shit is about to hit Toyota in dealer surveys.....

After another painful experience talking to tech guy at a dealership i decided not to bring my truck to anyone, not even for a tire rotation, i do not trust these guys. So I just bought a Scan Gauge (thanks cctk2) and printed the AC60E_ AUTOMATIC_TRANSMISSION FLUID_ ADJUSTMENT_2016-12.pdf (thanks Element) and plan to do the fluid myself! Yes, I spent the $170 on the gauge instead of pinning it out because of all the good reviews on Amazon about this gauge, amongst a lot of cool things, now i have trans temp gauge to look at while towing, so i don't need to install one i the trans line and jeopardize my warranty). I will follow up after i get this done. I love this forum, and love this truck!

It's a damn shame that these assholes sell us a 40k truck and kick us to the curve and LIE when we need them, times have changed I guess I remember when I bought my first gen taco excellent service from what I remember

After my first experience with a dealer I really believe most are in the dark about many of our issues. I know by now that the transmission issues are expected and well known. As much as I want to spank the dealer I truly believe Corporate has been dragging their feet. Why else would customers need to bring a copy of the TSB. This should be on a shop bulletin board in every dealer. I have faith that eventually Toyota will do the right thing. Many of us have driven enough miles to realize the current TSB is not a final fix. As great as it is the only real apparent permanent fix is to the P-D hesitation. And to me that is a major fix. I cannot emphasize strong enough that every person with a transmission issue must open a case with Corporate. That is a strong signal that there is a tarnish on the brand. 1st and 2nd gen trucks were great trucks that led to the popularity of the 3rd gen. They do not want to see a mass exodus of us in favor of another brand truck. I expected issues with the new model. I expected the issues to be mostly resolved before the 2nd year 3rd gen hit the market. As much money as Toyota spent on replacing leaf springs, frames and buying back other gen trucks I am extremely hopeful that the right permanent fix is just around the corner. If not there is a Ford and Chevy dealer on the next corner.

Had mine done today. Service manager didn't want to do it at first and stated all 2017's had the ECU update and low trans fluid issue resolved. I told her I still wanted it checked and the ECU code version checked to verify. They reluctantly agreed. Mine was 1/2 quart low and they checked it twice with a full cool down and the ECU was flashed with the new code as well. Needless to say the service manager was a little sheepish when she called me. Just the very limited city driving home the transmission is shifting like it should in Drive. I will find out tomorrow morning if the Park to Drive issue is resolved.

The P to D will be fixed. Your trans shifting will feel right for about a month the it will slide back into retard mode.

For sure. I'm contacting my service advisor soon and will call corporate if nothing comes out of that.

Took mine in at 1100 miles for the TSB and fluid level check. Fluid is on point according to them and TSB made gear changes a little smoother. Asked me to leave it overnight for the fluid check so I'm assuming they did really check and didn't bs me about the results.

Mine started acting up again about 300 miles after the reset and manual fluid check. Please let us know how yours behaves after a few hundred miles post dealer visit! Thanks!

16 DCSB Sport V6 Auto.trans. 4WD. 5th Tacoma same configuration. High hopes and an confidence in Toyota corp. issues would certainly be rectified has not transpired as of 9/15/16.after T-SB-0077-16. Completed improvement continued for what seems a time span of about 3 to 4 weeks and aprox 1,000 miles. Well anemic engined, wildly shifting tranny, nauseating shudder- surging, fall on it's nose new and improved Tacoma is back to it's old ugly performance. HELP somebody! Toyota and dealer maintain vehicle is operating as designed . Please Toyota give your loyal Tacoma customers more credit.......after all .... Your customers put their faith and trust in Toyota to deliver to them an improved product...... Not a step back in performance. An incredible product minus an improved drivetrain....... Really Toyota , correct this engine- transmission debacle . Four straight months of declining Tacoma sales, twins gaining ground and Frontier ( antiquated) all inching up on Tacoma......forecast , mid- sized truck dominance will continue to erode........ Toyota has issued the procumilation !

I have now put about 2K miles on my truck since the TSB. I stick to my initial impression, it really isn't a huge improvement. I also feel like several other members and think the truck has reverted back to old habits. I know this sounds crazy but I drive the same hill everyday about 430 in the morning with no traffic and no distractions, so I can really tell what the truck is doing. Over the past month it has went back to changing gears about 4 times before topping the hill. I'm back to driving in sport exclusively.

I live in Nashville and I don't see a ton of the 3rd gens on the road. The ppl I have talked to with 3rd gens seem to have the same impression as me.

So my engine started to "chrip" today and when I was running the AC the rpm would fluctuate between 500 and 1000 every 5 seconds or so... they tried to tell me it was normal and I was not buying it... still they brought another taco over and sat it next to mine and it did the same thing after it warmed to normal temps.. the ac puts a load on and sometimes it will flop between 500/1000 rpm when the clutch engages... the master tech and me chatted for like 30 min and he was super cool... he said the chirping was due to a second set of direct injectors, its an auto cleaning response when it wants to clean the other injectors.. so random. this engine has some weird tendencies.

when the chirp went away so did the rpm jump... I am not used to this truck. I had a 80k merc that never acted like this with the engine and it was a 2016. I sold it cause it was having issues and now i have to deal with a skittish taco haha
