They make DOT approved LED pods.
Not sure about performance, but you have some legal options.

Whether or not legal still means blinding to oncoming traffic, I dunno.

Rigid has DOT approved lighting pods for that very reason. Brighter lights but if aimed correctly you're not blinding anyone

Hids and LEDs are approved in projector housings. Not sure if only a certain wattage is allowed. But any factory HID light must be in a projector housing

    1) How does it cost $14,000 to clean a fuel system? At $130 an hour your talking 110 hours or so?

    2) You mentioned the truck getting hit with a "wave" awhile back, I'm guessing that was salt water? Would it be a stretch to think salt water would have a negative effect on your vehicles electrical system? Then again, some time has passed, but who knows what kind of corrosion that would cause over time.

    3) Pressure washing the engine bay is often a problem with our used car department, fairly often we see a car come out of there that magically has a check engine light all the sudden. Always having to tell them to calm the F down with that.

    4) This is a sucky situation for you and the dealership

I already have dot approved projector led fog lights.

    My HIDs are indeed legal.

The options I have for lights aren't really the focus, my focus is the fact that the truck is disabled if the factory headlight harness, regardless if the HIDs or stock bilbs are plugged up, gets wet.

Unless you did some testing you haven't mentioned, you don't know if it fails with the stock bulbs so this is not a fact.

I didn't mean to be harsh, but it probably sounded that way. Sorry. I forget that most people don't normally spend days/weeks/months chasing intermittent electronic issues. I'm used to a high level of technology induced frustration. You shouldn't have to deal with it in a consumer product, but until the aftermarket component is eliminated as the cause, I think we should give Toyota (not the dealer) the benefit of the doubt based on the fact nobody else has had this problem.

Well. It looks like they were right. I decided that today I would take out the TRS Morimoto HIDs and harness and pop the stoxk ones back in. I first went easy and hoses lightly then got more aggressive... Finally I broke out the pressure washer and washed the whole thing as normal....

I even blasted the lights, hood, and engine, brake reservoir area, and the back of radiatior with pressure washer...

    No issues...

Now time to water proof those lights.

Never thought headlights would disable a 40k truck.

My next truck will be a 1970s truck. Lol

This is why tech assistance tells us to remove/unhook any aftermarket components before continuing with diagnosis. I love the 2 cent OBD2 dongles and insurance things that screw up the data line and cause all kinds of issues.

Well not only did they unhook them, but they also yanked out the plastic. Clips that keep the factory harness in place, and I can't seem to find where they go lol.

They also forgot to put in a bolt on my fender flare/inner fender wall... Now I know what that noise I've been here was it's flopping around and my fender flare started peeling off.

But, as of now, case closed. ALTHOUGH I have it in writing where they did find more sand/dirt and that the intake screen was covered in dirt. So, that is still a concern of mine, however it is not the cause of our problems.... Lol

Now time to super seal that HID harness, I'm looking for input from TRD hence why I keep tagging @TRSAndrew and @TRSJimmy

Unless it happens again with the stock lights. OP leave the stock lights in for a few weeks, or throw them in on your next offroad trip and then wash the truck
