It's actually a wifi mirror box. I mostly just want to use it with google maps since my receiver is a non nav entune plus.

There is more to it with the 2012-2013, I'm still working on it. I can get the av option to come up in the source menue on my 2013 but the video feed is just a blue screen.

Now I would definitely say it works on the 2012-2013, it just requires two harnesses instead of one like the 2014 touch screen I first posted.

I didn't use this harness, I made my own, but this looks like the same thing: (Link)

I used this mirror box but with that harness you should be able to use anything out there that outputs in RCA: (Link)

This is really cool dude! I'm super interested in this mod. So if I understand this correctly for a 2014 head unit you need only one harness, the larger 28 pin? That connects inline with the oem harness and gives you red, white and yellow RCA inputs. You then connect up the box you linked to the RCA plugs.

What other connections are made with the box? +12V, Ground?

Also basically this is mirroring your smart phone, correct? Is it done via Bluetooth, WiFi?

Any more info you can post would be greatly appreciated! Great work on this mod!

You about summed it up. The mirror is done over wife. The mirror box I linked to will make a hotstop by default or you can go into the settings and connect it to another wifi hotspot if you have one (not usually the case in a moving vehicle). I just connect to the default hotspot hosted by the mirror box and my phone was smart enough to recognize that there was not an actual internet signal coming from it so it continued to use my 4G data.

I connected the 12v+ and - for the mirror box to the power supply going to the receiver. Depending on if you have a JBL or not and the actual year of your truck that location will be:

The right way to do it is probably to add a circuit from your fuse box but the thing doesn't draw that much juice so I figure why not.

Just a heads up, both of those items I listed are shipped from China. If you spend a little more time searching you should be able to find something comparable from a US destributer.

I have a 2012 base model and I am looking to upgrade the head unit amount other things... the struggle is real. Can someone point me in the direction of a thread so I can make a purchase so i can have a screen a mirroring unit. I know that a JBL unit will be overkill for a regular cab conversion, has anyone done something with the newer 2015 head units?

This one looks like a pretty good deal to me... you even get the clock with it!

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/14-2014-15-2015-Toyota-Tacoma-CD-MP3-Player-Radio-57089-OEM-LKQ-/191954452638?fits=Year:2014|Model:Tacoma&hash=item2cb160809e:g:SYgAAOSwHoFXv5fh&vxp=mtr

I believe the swap would be pretty much straight forward for your 2012. You might need to add a microphone and steering wheel controls unless you already have that with your current head unit.

As for the mirror part, just get the mirror display and harness like I suggested above.

As someone who has used both the 2012-13 and the 2014-15 versions I would say you will be much happier with the 2014+. The interface is better and it hooks up to my phone via bluetooth about twice as fast. Which means my music is streaming from my phone before I pull out of the driveway. The main connection should be the same.
