New here & have problems. 1st thing, I know very little about computers, or evidently the 22r either. Where on this site do I ask a question about my 1991 22r eng. problem??? From what I see, the first generation starts at 1995

I'd suggest www.yotatech.com for you. That forum is more dedicated to the older pickup trucks before Tacomas like your 1991.

Welcome! You would want to post in the Toyota Trucks and SUVs section, pre-Tacoma.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/forums/toyota-trucks-suvs.20/

The section does not get a lot of traffic. If you don't get your answer there, you might try yotatech forums, which are way more 22r(e) oriented. I've built a few 22re motors. What is the issue you are having?

Thanks ya'll, hey crash, my nephew's truck, the eng blew the head gasket, a local mechanic replaced it. Everything went great, except the eng. now has very little power, It starts fine, doesn't seem to misfire, idles fine, no kind of smoke, everything seems great, except the power. They have had it back apart 3 times checking cam timing, ign. timing is spot on, removed catalic converter, thought it may be stopped up, but nothing they can find. Are there any tricks to getting the cams timed correctly, they say it is pretty straight forward, & all looks correct. It won't go over hardly any hill in 5th, & many times you have to go down to 3rd to get over some hills. Nothing like it was before the head gasket change. I keep thinking a cam timing problem, but hoping a Toyota man may have a trick they have missed. thanks

Cam timing is pretty simple on those motors, assuming it is not installed 180 degrees off. Just to clarify, this is a carbureted 22r and not a fuel injected 22re, correct?

The reason I ask is it sounds like it could possibly be a bad Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). You can look up the test procedure to measure resistance levels at partial throttle and wide open throttle to see if you are getting the specified numbers to see if it is any good. I've had one of these go out right after a rebuild and it took me a while to track it down thinking I had done something wrong, because the truck completely gutless. I double/triple checked everything, but it was the sensor that had failed. However, these sensors are only on the 22re motors (fuel injected), not the 22r (carbed).

Have basics like compression have been checked?

That kind'f seems like what may be happening, maybe just 2/3 throttle instead of wide open. I'll suggest that to him. Thanks.
