Feeler/Interest gauge for 12-15 blackout interior parts

Nuno can you document the bezel removal when you are painting yours? This would help me and many others I am sure

 

Sure, I can give it a go whenever I get to it. I'm sure David might be able to do it better than I could, so will have to check out his build thread in case he has something in there. Just the thought of removing them is giving me heartburn... afraid I'll break them.

Just to clarify, what is involved in getting the 14-15 steering controls to light up in a 13? Looked over the thread again and wasnt able to find anything.

Mid-post I talk about adding a pin to the clock spring harness plug, terminal #9 to be exact. I linked a thread that has some info about adding the pin, with a diagram of the plug itself including numbered terminals.

I haven't taken pictures of what I did but I can this weekend since a few people have asked the same question so far.

Everything else about the controls is simple plug n play

 

Thanks dude. Thats exactly what i remember seeing but couldnt find it for the life of me this morning!

Start by tilting your steering wheel all the way down.
Remove this kick plate. It just pulls straight up and is only held in by clips.


Then pull off the dead pedal. It pulls towards the back of the vehicle and is only clipped on.


Next unscrew this thing. Lefty loosey, righty tightey.


Pull out this panel. It pulls towards the back of the vehicle.


Pull out the change holder to the right of the steering wheel and unscrew this 10mm bolt.


Pull back towards the rear of the vehicle on the lower dash. No need to unclip switches or fully remove it. This panel sits in front of the gauge cluster surround so it just needs to move down.

Do the same behind the change holder. Just pull backwards and move it down.


Then remove the clips holding in the top of the surround. They could either be phillips screws or push pins. If you get worried here send me a picture of the clip and I can go into further detail.


Then firmly grasp the gauge cluster surround and pull straight back towards you. At this point it's only held in by some clips.


Pull evenly all the way around. You should be able to pull from the top edge outwards also.


Push the top edge over the steering wheel and use the notch in the dash to pull this square that juts out through.


Once it is out, unclip all switches. The number of switches can vary so just make sure you get them all.
Then remove the panel. You can see below how many clips there are holding it in. You'll also see how the gauge cluster rings are held in. Just gently use a small flathead to pry the clips over the notch and push them outwards.

Yea Toyota couldn't make anything easy haha but it's all easy to do just time consuming. You'll have to take this off to remove the AC vent panel also.

 

AH HA. So one way or another it needs to come off. Gotcha. Guess I'll just wait to get all the parts to do everything then. Was thinking about hitting up the gauge trim ASAP, but no point since I'll have to take all that off again anyway.
