Do I need a reinforcement for my tailgate or has Toyota fixed this issue? I asked the service manager about it and he told me he didn't know of anyone having an issue. I wheel my motorcycles up a ramp into the truck sometimes.
The gate felt ok to me but I'd rather be safe than sorry.
    Opinions?

Toyota put in some extra supports sometime around 2011 or 2012. Something like that. Im sure with enough weight in the center of the tailgate it could still damage it.

I installed a Mobtown tailgate reinforced panel, super easy, makes it real stout. They are a vendor on TW, highly recommend.

I would still recommend one. I have the the Relentless Fab aluminum option on my 15 and couldn't be happier with it.

This doesn't look strong to me

    Reinforcement in place

Covered back up with factory plastic

    All done

Or if you don't have the money and just want to ghetto it, you can put wood blocks into the tailgate attached to however many of the supports you feel like need it. I did that for about $10 worth of wood blocks I had Home Depot cut for me.

I don't really carry heavy things that need to be placed on the tailgate to load and unload. This was really just cheap insurance for the occasional times I do.

Either of the two options from Relentless Fab or Mobtown Offroad will work perfectly for you and look very nice IMO

From a physics stand point, pressure is force/area...so if you just wanted to put a wooden board cut to fit on top of the tailgate and load up the bikes that would work too if you didn't want to have to spend the money on the tailgate reinforcement plate. Although admittedly those plates will a do a better job, but the wood will get it done at least.

Thanks for all the replies.I've put a half sheet of plywood on the tailgate and truck bed before just for piece of mind. I'll probably just get one of those Mobtown ones.Too bad he stopped making the less expensive non ribbed one.I'm going to put the plastic one over it anyway.

The ribbed one is only $20 more than the non-ribbed one was, with the current sale going on.

I ordered the Mobtown one,Labor Day sale. It's a little more than I wanted to spend but I think it will worth it in the long run.Cheaper than a new tailgate.

I received the Mobtown reinforcement,I opened the box to make sure it looked ok. I'm going to install it this weekend. Is it pretty straight forward? Any tips, tricks or suggestions?
    Thanks,George

I have the relentless reinforcement, it was an easy install, very straightforward, and well worth it. You may want to wax the top of the gate once you remove the old plastic piece and before you slip the new one on.

Super easy install, I have one and it's one of the best mods I've done to my truck. It's very straight forward install, simple swap. I'm going to buy the tailgate end cap when I can swing it.
