Has anyone had trouble with their rear differential not locking? I was at the beach the other day, and was trying out the different 4wd modes, mts, crawl, and the locking rear diff. Oh yeah I have a 2016 trd OR. Crawl control worked ok for going through the sand. I buried it up to the rails on purpose to see if it worked, had to get a quick jerk then it came right out. pushed the locking rear diff button, just got a flashing red light, never locked. Hour later we where leaving tried it again, this time locked no problem. have tried to lock it a few more times and it seems to be about 50/50 as to when it will actually lock or not. Yes it was in neutral when I engaged it, or should i say tried to engage. drove it forward as well as backwards to no avail. has anyone else experienced this? Am I just doing something wrong?

just saying, this is why I prefer air lockers. unless a line is damaged or compressor fails it will lock and not cause issues

I had similar issues which were solved by slightly moving and turning the wheel both ways.

yeah 4 low every time. I would like to get this sorted out so I can feel safe sending my wife to the beach by herself and not worrying about her getting stuck with no one around.

Madcity. I will give that a shot tomorrow, she already took it to work today.

Sometimes it gets bound up you have to move the truck forward or backwards to get it to lock in just like 4lo or 4hi.

if you're going to be in sand maybe invest in some Maxtraxx?
Many swear by them as the best recovery solution for sand.

Just tell the wife to engage the locker and put the skinny one to the floor lmao that will get her unstuck  just kidding don't do that if your stuck and not moving forward 4lo let it lock in then engage locker if its flashing and does not lock hit the button again to turn it off put the truck in drive and SLOWLY give it a little gas to spin the tires sometimes reverse to drive works just don't have the thing pegged out manual says wheels should not be moving when engaging the locker then stop and try turning it on again.

I am going to look into the maxtraxx. We live on an island, drive on the beach three to six times a week. Granted most times it is not very far, just backing up 70 feet or so then pulling forward again. She is getting more confident at it so that's a bonus.

Ya look into them then. They were designed in Australia. You can find many videos YouTube about them. Many swear by them as one of the best self recovery solutions.
