Hi all you smart people that buy tacomas! First time poster here.
Just ordered my 3rd one.....a 2017 off-road, blue. I need to get a tonneau ordered so I have it when the truck comes. I had extang roll-ups on my last 2 trucks and they were fine because I need the full bed access on occasion. They are a pain to roll up by yourself and thought I would try a folding cover because I need a one-man operation. Was going to get factory cover but it seemed cumbersome to remove and I don't like the idea of the way they cut the bed up to fit if it ever goes bad and I have to remove. Seems like many on here like the Extang solidfold 2.0 but I like the features of the Encore better. Anyone have one and take it off and back on regularly? What do you think?

Extang Solid Fold 2.0: Leaks everywhere and the tonneau cover frame bends on the cab side. New weather seals do not solve the leak.

Your gonna get a lot of different opinions. The encore is just as cumbersome as the solid fold. The encores don't always latch right either. And the rear seems to not seal so well. The other guy saying his solid fold leaks bad I'd like to see. My guess is cab seal and it's not sealed properly. The solid fold 2.0 have a pretty good triple seal. None are fully water proof, but neither is a truck bed. I like how easy the go on and off. Don't like tonneau covers with the rails because you can't really strap too much to the side of the bed without worrying about it screwing them up. And it's a pain to keep removing and reinstalling the rails on covers like that. End of the day, you gotta get what suits your needs best. Your the one using your truck and only you know what will best suit your needs

Extang Solid Fold 2.0: leaks nowhere and had been a rock on my 16 access sport 6spd. I absolutely love it. Its all about adjusting the thing right. Not too far back on the rails. Supposed to be closer to the cab than the rear gate. Took a try or two. Also don't wrench the thing down. Just gotta get it snug. Stocker leaks, no tonneau is rated waterproof. I'd buy my 2.0 10 times over.

Undercover Flex leaks badly up front. I sold mine and will do without. I just wasted my money.

I would say whatever you get, get it on tonneauworld.com! Their customer support and service is amazing. I have a BakFlip and the first one leaked a lot, they quickly sent me a new one and prepaid for the old one to be sent back!

On that note my second BakFlip has been great! Virtually watertight, but as has been mentioned none are rated to be water proof. Also easy to fold up with one person!

I have the rugged liner e-liner soft folding on mine. In a full on north texas rainstorm I got maybe a cup of water in mine. You could go solid fold if you need the security but I just needed something to keep the rain off my luggage while traveling lol. It was less than $200 at my dealer cost, i think msrp was $249 or so.

I thought the OEM cover fits just fine for my uses. No water in the bed after rain and car washes. I can't justify $700+ for a aftermarket solid cover when people sells the OEM one for $300.

Love my Leer Trilogy. Little water after running it through a car wash, but nothing to worry about. Easy on and off, and the built in lights help when accessing the bed in the dark.

Thanks for responses. I've re-thought my needs and decided vinyl is fine. Just need weather proof....not security. I expect the over the siderail type would be most water resistant. I've had 3 extang tuff-tonno roll-ups. They are hard to roll by yourself and get a tight enough roll to strap when you get to the cab...so I want to try something else. Velcro scares me for longevity but the videos look easy to use. Anybody have a roll-up they like?

I got an e series from Rugged Cover. It's never leaked, even in car washes, and its really light so I can remove it quickly and painlessly by myself.

    It was also like $200.

I'll 2nd that! I prefer to close my tailgate 1st then the cover. I then take my finger and run it along the seal to get it on top of the tailgate. TruXedo told me you can have the seal on top of the tailgate or close the tailgate and the seal is inside. It is a preference thing they told me. I like my Lo Pro QT also. Had it on the truck 1 week today. Water does tend to pool on the cover about a foot behind the cab.
