That's been the intended target since it hit the street on day 1.

I actually find that article to be somewhat patronizing. They make it seem like it's nothing but emotion, pride, and "good ol' days" nostalgia that drives people to traditional pickup designs which is insulting to the intelligence of those who do. Meanwhile, if you're "smart" and progressive and don't want to be associated with those nasty dumb Earth-killing "truck people" with small penises you should check out the Ridgeline!

Precisely. If it's a non-issue for us why can't everyone stop talking about it?

I'll take "constant need to make ourselves be better than the next guy" for $500, Alex.

We get it. It's a big El Camino/Ranchero.

Had a '67 283/glide Camino that I rebuilt about 1/2 a house with it being the material hauler. Gabriel air shocks, crossed fingers and away we go.

I'd bet over 50% of Tacoma owners on this board would make out just fine with a Ridgeline, 'cause they don't need a 'truck' either.

Certainly true for the 'level-lift-big-tire-black-wheel-wheel-spacer-look-tuff-but-I never-go-offroad-crowd'. Of which there are more than a few.

In many cases they are right. How many people buy a truck and want it perfectly level because they never haul or tow anything. Or they want all the off road features and 4wd and never leave the pavement or deal with in-climate weather? It is many times about perception, keeping some machoness in suburbia.

This truck would work so well for so many on here but it is that perception thing. Same with a minivan, they work so much better than any crossover it isn't even funny yet it is labeled as selling out or not hip enough. People would rather struggle more and look cool (even though who are you trying to impress you are a grown as* adult) than get what fits their needs best.

I would much rather drive a luxurious great handling fun and powerful sports sedan than a truck everyday; but it won't tow our jetskis or boat, it won't haul yard or house projects, it won't tow a track car or restoration projects or get me to the top of a 4wd pass. I loved driving my GTO to work everyday, it would put a smile on my face on the way home, but I got tired of having to borrow my dads truck more and more often that it was time to switch. With the growing toys and to do lists it had to go (for now, I still am in contact with the owner).

So many people that drive macho trucks do none of that and aren't do it your selfers. They would get much more pleasure driving something fun that would also get better mpg and be safer in many instances but again, perception... Guessing you are insulted because the nail has been hit on the head? Probably the same as the others who just insult it calling it a minivan or CUV with a bed. They know it is true and try to play it off with a laugh or insult. Guess people enjoy playing the hypocrite.

I could see them fitting the bill for a lot of people. From a practical use perspective I bet about 3/4 of people on this forum could use one of these Honda 'trucks' to do everything they currently do with their Tacoma.

I could get by fine without a Tacoma, but not a manual gearbox, only midsize with with a 5spd manual. Plus I have always had a manual 4x4,3rd taco,I hate change, still pissed about no locking hubs.

I'd buy an RL tomorrow if it came with a manual transmission. My only two 6 cylinder/4wd/manual options for my next truck are the Tacoma and the Frontier. The RL has more than enough towing capacity and off-road ability for my needs. Fat, bald and married to the same lovely woman for 25 years, I gave up caring what others think of me based on the vehicle I drive years ago.
